Which 9200 panel do you have? - Page 11

Hi Guys....

After an email Feud this AM with Dell
I received the following email.:

Dear Michael,

Since the previous email agent is not available today, I am replying to your message so that we can solve your problem as quickly as possible.

I apologize for the displeasure caused by the problem you are having.

Michael, I have set up a parts shipment to take place to replace the LCD. Airborne Express should be delivering the part to you directly within 5 to 7 business days (not including Saturday or Sunday). I apologize that you have had problems. The reference number for this service call is: 053342370

When you receive the replacement unit, you will find a return airbill in the box. Replace all new components with old components (manuals and cables included), affix the airbill to the box, and call Airborne Express at 1-800-247-2676 to have the box shipped back to Dell. You need to do this within five days of receipt of the replacement unit to avoid being charged for the replacement. If you wish to check the status of this service simply direct your browser to DellCare at

http://support.dell.com/us/en/checkstatus.asp

By copying and pasting the link into your address bar. Once the page loads simply select Service Call Status. Using either your Service Tag or Customer Number you should be able to view the status of all active service calls within 90 days.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to email back and I will be glad to assist you. I hope this information will help resolve our issue and thank you for your time and patience regarding this matter.

Respectfully,

Rajeev

Viper, I think that too many people are worried about what other people think. There is no general consensus here, period. We're all running in circles and I think the information is confusing and conflicting. I think that some of the information is wrong. And I think some folks would be perfectly happy with their laptop if they had never been here.

Ask anyone who works in an admitting office at a hospital. Many of them go home every single day worrying in the back of their heads about if they had a particular disease or condition because of some patient that told them a story when they were being admitted. It's just the normal human power of suggestion.

It sounds to me that you want to know your part number to know if you should be happy or not. I strongly suggest to you to ignore all this mess. Throw in a DVD. Play a game. If you like it and it looks good to you, then be happy. If it doesn't go to dell.

The last thing you should do is give one rat's ass about what everyone here says is good or not.

This is VERY helfpul to discuss and talk about issues from an educational perspective, but do not let people here, or your part number, decide if you like your screen or not!!

That goes for the rest of you too!!

Well, I for one when I received the 9200. I got a headache from the LG Phillips screen. For me it wasn't a matter of the what part number it was. It was a matter of getting rid of a migrane brought on by the substandard screen. I'll report in 5-7days my findings with the samsung screen.

Heinrich,
You telling me that I ignored the advice of everyone on this list and allowed myself to be pushed around by DELL is ridiculous. I really resent you saying that to me. I am upset about what has transpired with my laptop. You weren't in my home when my husband and I made numerous phone calls and sent emails to no avail. We spent hours on the phone, and DELL would not help us. Following the advice on this thread did not produce good results, that is not to say I didn't appreciate all the input, we just did not receive the good results or outcomes of others. I also asked for help in using knoppix and the other DOS applications to view the display I had because I had conflicting information on my packing slip and from the service tag info. I was told to find a pimply-face geek to help me with that. Some good advice.

Alright, everybody calm down. You see what trying to deal with Dell is doing to you? You have entered the cycle of despair, depression, and general disgruntlement I warned you about. Except you went straight to disgruntlement. As for the pimply-faced geek advice, I consider that my greatest pearl of wisdom. Everybody should have one. I've got two locked up in my closet, and I don't know what I'd do without them.

No, Delbert, I'm upset over a poster trying to tell me I ignored advice. Not the case at all. I appreciate you starting this thread, but maybe I should have stayed away from it altogether.

You're right, azusaheart. In this case, ignorance is bliss. Now that it is gnawing at you, your frustration with the whole mess can only grow. I still recommend that if you want to pursue this with Dell, you pursue the return path rather than the exchange path. Returning the laptop will remove this token of pain from your life, and you and your hubby can choose a new gift -- hopefully one that doesn't require tech support from pimply-faced geeks

Personally, I dont care if other people like my panel, the thing that concerns me is the white parts of IE are NOT white, on google and other sites, I CANNOT see the text boxes because the grey outline is pretty much the same color as the "white." Either way, this panel/computer is going back but if this is the best screen that people on this forum have seen, I WILL be getting a refund instead of waiting for another panel.

My real point is that if there is a general consensus that one panel has the least sparkely effect and is considered better than the rest, I do not want to waste my time with Dell on this computer and trying to get this panel replaced.

According to the edid program, the .dat fille has y4014 in it. Gonna try knoppix and double check.

Viper,
This may seem like a redundant question, but what screen do you have on your 9200? You must have mentioned it somewhere in this thread, but can't find the post right now. Is it the Samsung W4014? If you do, could you give me some details on how it looks, i.e., brightness, whites truly white, vibrant color, silk screen effect, etc? The reason I'm asking is that we are still going to pursue DELL, but I want to be sure it is worth the effort to pursue a Samsung W4014 as the replacement screen option. There were a couple of posts from customers who didn't particularly like the Samsung screen, and then some who mentioned that there was still a slight silk screen/frost effect. I don't really want to go from worse to "less worse."

ok, i guess what people are saying and what i'm gonna say again is......if dell didn't help you out and swap screens for you why did you just give up and order a flat panel monitor? why didn't you just return the 9200 for your money back and go with a different company that makes 17inch screens. Kinda seems pointless that you even bought that laptop when it's only going to be used as a desktop now since you own a flat panel monitor. What people are saying is you shouldn't have just given up, you should have returned it so you wouldn't be stuck with the lcd you have. I don't think it's anyone's fault on this forum, they tried to help with advice and some people who really step there footdown with dell get what they want, some people just ask nicely and if they say no they quit asking. You gotta step it up and raise some hell to get what you want......if you didn't do that, that's fine but resorting to a flat panel monitor to fix your problems wasn't the brightest move in the book. I bet everyone on this forum would have just returned it and took their money elsewhere....

Here's what i've had

Samsung X4766 #1 was very dim. The white colors looked more yellow and brownish. Played with color settings but nothing fixed it.

I recieved a replacement with another Samsung X4766. This one is much much brighter and the whites are truly white. No sparkle either. I think the Samsung X4766 may have been revised or changed. I had my family look at both computers and tell me which was brighter and they picked the replacement everytime.

Does anyone else have an X4766 that doesnt seem very bright or has the darker white colors?

Yup, this is all very subjective. And there's probably a fair amount of variation from a given manufacturer. If you're happy with what you got, that's all that matters. And some people won't be happy till they get a Sony XBrite

X4766 (in the replacement system that I got)

One word - Fabulous!

PS: Packing slip said W5411, but Dell's support website says it's X4766 that I have.

Y4014

Hi, I have got the Y4014 WUXGA Samsung SEC5557 and it is quiete ok.

Light/medium greasy effect, could be brighter. I do recommend the latest Omega Drivers.

Dell gave me back 100€ as I brought the US discussion about the display to Germany..

Hi folks,

I am planning to have a 9200. I have a few questions.
1. Does the LCD problem continue with latest purchases?
2. Is here anybody who purchased 9200 lately and does not have any problem with LCD?
3. Did Dell already corrected the problem?
4. If not yet, as far as I know, while placing online I do not have any choice to select my LCD part number. How about phone orders? Can I specify what part number I want for LCD?

Thank you.

It seems that most WUXGA users are getting the vastly improved part Y4014. WXGA+ have been *mostly* happy from the beginning.

Sales cannot specify part numbers. You just have to cross your fingers - if you happen to get a bad one you go through the exchange process one way or another.

Sales can make a note on the system, though, but I'm not sure that it helps much.

Well,
I've already received the replacement samsung WUXGA and I must say....IT'S WAY BETTER than the Phillips LG screen I previously had on. It wasn't hard to install. Just follow instructions and be patient. Anyhow's I wanted to let everyone know I was SUPER happy with the Y4014 Samsung. Sparkle is so minimal...its almost non-existant. And brightness....Outstanding versus the Phillips LG. My vote's for the Y4014! Now My love toward my 9200 is whole.....lol....with no remorse.

Congrats, Inspector. How do your two displays compare for color and black levels? I also prefer the Samsung, but I my LG had blacker blacks and richer colors.
