Which 9200 panel do you have? - Page 12

Thanks....Dellbert
You are right, the LG had darker blacks and richer color but the sparkle was eating away at my insides, driving me...towards that dark place....lol. Plus, I must say.... I love the brightness of the Samsung.

Example: I had a night sky scenery background as my wallpaper background. With the LG the whole sky was black with the stars. When I booted with the Samsung I could see shades of grey and brown in the sky along with the black. Something I couldn't see with the LG.

My 2nd replacement arrived today. The original order for the second replacement (I've had to make two orders for each replacement so far and two orders for one of the two laptops I bought in the first place). Back to the second replacement - on the first order, the reason I had to cancel it and retry with two wasted hours and about four phone calls - is that the customer service folks (who acted as though they were doing me a huge favor) ordered me a replacement WUXGA for my WXGA+. I didn't want to go down THAT road again. When I tried and tried to get a WXGA+ replacement, the sales/customer service/return department simply said that they COULD NOT replace my WXGA+ with a WUXGA because the WXGA+ part was no longer available.

This made absolutely no sense to me as it's on the website. When I finally got in touch with the tech folks who knew how to make the order, they couldn't understand why the other folks thought that WXGA+ was not available.

In my mind, I assumed that a particular vendor was no longer being used. I assumed that my second replacemnt would be the Samsung screen.

Surprise, it's not - it's still a T4976 which is exactly what I was replacing. Why did I have to go through so much Hell with Customer Service who claimed this part was no longer available? Am I on candid camera? Is John Cleese lurking in the background testing my patience for a new, tech version of Fawlty Towers?

I thought that I was going to have a T4776 next to a T4976 and I would make some nice comparison's for y'all. But since T4976 is still available and that's what I got, I can't do it.

The second T4976 has richer colors and whiter whites - and about 20% more light leakage at the bottom center with less leakage on the sides and top. The first was more even. But the whites are definitely whiter; the blues are bluer; my eyes are more pleased with this one.

Now, you may wonder why I replaced a good WXGA+ with a good WXGA+. The reasons were that my mouse buttons buzz slightly on audio CDs and on certain tones occasionally. I wasn't replacing it because of any display issues.

Unfortunately my left mouse button STILL buzzes on certain pitches/tones and sounds with this laptop. The most common way to repeat this is at the very beginning of the "Stepping into Liquid video, at about 1/3 volume, on the word "element" in the very opening beginning. Anyone else hear a fast bee type buzz?

Fortunately this second one does it less often and the volume must be louder.

I've had my fill with Dell -for screwing up my order, for sending a crappy screen, for sending me three parts as an apology - all three of which are wrong, for sending me a replacement that buzzes, and then hassling me over replacing that machine including getting the order wrong and causing me several hours of repeated phone calls - and then sending me a second laptop that STILL buzzes - and for making a huge typo on my name on one of my $200 rebates and losing my second $200 rebate on my second laptop.

These people have tested my patience in this experience unlike any other company has ever done in my 39 years of living. UNCLE! I'm keeping this thing and I'll have it repaired if it gets worse or bothers me, as I expect it to.

Heinrich, I'm pretty sure whoever runs Dell's Customer Service org is a huge fan of Franz Kafka.

My second replacement arrived today too. And it also has an LG WXGA+, but I don't care because it's going straight to eBay.

And, yeah, I've heard that left speaker buzz too. Try booting up into the Dell diagnostics (F12 during POST) and run their sound test. That really seems to bring out the buzz in my system.

The one thing I learned in this forum is:

Always go through Technical Support and make it a technical issue if it isn't. I emailed tech support 3 days ago. I got my replacement today.....Stick me with a Fork.......I'm Done...lol.

Just a note for Canadian regarding replacement.

Make sure you do not get replacement laptop through technical support. You will get refurbished instead of a new replacement. Call technical support and ask them to leave a problem note and then call customer care to get a new replacement.

I am pissed rignt about now....

After talking to a tech support rep on Monday to request a replacement UXGA screen for my 9200, specifically one manufactured by Samsung, I was told that it would be possible to receive a Samsung display. They overnight a replacement to me and I receive it this morning (Wednesday). To my surprise, it is the SAME display I already have, an LG Phillips W4554!
So, the service guy that came to install the display and I call tech support to find out what happened. According to the tech support guy, they only have LG Phillips displays, part number D8987, to send out for replacement. They also said that they cannot send out a replacement Samsung display. I ask if they understand that the tech support person I spoke to on Monday specifically told me that I would receive a Samsung display, and also if they are aware of the fact that a few people have contacted Dell tech support and specifically requested the Samsung display, and have in fact gotten one.

I like my 9200, but the display just sucks. One more call to tech support. If they can't help me, then it's going back.

I'm in Australia and I just recieved my 9200, I got a W5412 WUXGA and I don't have any sparkling and the laptop is working great so far. I am downloading the knoppix CD to confirm which manufacturer I got, but i'm guessing it's Samsung which I am extremely happy about.

My decision was just made easier last night, for the third time in a week the action of placing my dell axim x50v in the cradle to sync it caused my i9200 to just turn off. After it turned off, I could not turn it back on or get it to do anything but beep or flash the power light until i pulled out the battery and unplugged it for approximately 10 minutes. Furthermore, when it did boot up, I definately smelled something like burnt plastic. Due to this I do not think I can safely use this computer (safely leave it on that is in case something actually got fried) and I cannot attach anything to it (also in case something got fried) because I dont want to risk any of my peripherals. If Dell cannot give me a good enough reason to put up with this or give them another chance (an extension of the return policy for example) I am just gonna get a refund. Now I need to do some research on the current line of Sagers.

WXGA, and it is the perfect resolution for me. After, like so many other people, choosing the WUXGA, on the 8600, I got it right this time.

I got the y5412 with my machine. At first I was fine with it. I then started to have some DVD=RW problems along with a loud clicky hard drive. I called Dell tech support and they offered to send me a new machine. I then took a close look at my screen. I did notice some bad "sparkling" and a few wierd looking spots. I made sure I requested the y4041. They said OK and is now being built. I'm so glad I was able to buy through my company. I got a special E.P.P number for Tech and Cust. Service and I have never been outsourced yet. I love talking and listening to people about technical stuff when their primary langauge is...well English. Although in my field of work we are on the phone and working with a lot of people from India.

I just got 9200 with W5411 it is brilliant looks as great as my VAIO. I would have gotten WUXGA, but I think WXGA does just fine.

Just got i9200

Just got the Inspiron 9200 a few days ago. So far, very happy with my purchase. I changed my order to the WXGA+ screen after reading about all the problems with WUXGA. I really like the screen, no 'shimmering', 'sparkling' or blurring that I can see, in fact quite soothing on the eyes), I like the widescreen effect, this laptop is very silent and responds quickly. Everything looks great so far! One small comment: the DVD-tray seems a bit flimsy; it tends to stick a little. This should work more smoothly, I think, on such an expensive machine. But everything else looks fine !
I am really happy with this machine too. I just wasn't too fond of the screen. I thought I could deal with it, but decided to swap it. Plus my DVD-rw drive wasn't working properly. If I am not happy with this screen, I'll just switch to the WXGA+

My WUXGA

All begins when the last december I saw this new an beautiful machine, I am a programmer and at that time I had a 16.1 UXGA Sony, I used to love the Sony notebook, but the support and warranty service in my country, just sucks and the sony was a really expensive machine, I worked with it for about 2 years and I thought this new 9200 might be my new dream machine, So I went to the bank, withdraw all my money and buy this $US2000.

At december 22 my dreams and nigthmares came true when dell goes to my work and gave me my new 9200, everything was ok until I opened it and saw its horrible and very sparkly screen, I just can“t work with this screen .

So , next I called the support service and after 15 minutes at phone, they tell me that I had to wait for about 20 days for a new screen.

Then I saw this forums and start to get worried about what lcd dell would have send me. I ran knnopix and show me my lcd was a lg philips W4554. Every night I prayed for dell to send me the samsung lcd.

And today, Dell went back to my work and replace my sparkly LG Lcd with a beauty and fewer sparkly samsung y4014 LCD , and now I am very happy with my notebook , the lcd is not good as sony but its good.

So for everyone with a sparkly lg lcd just call dell support, request a lcd replacement and every night you must pray to Budha, JC or any god you belive, because if you don't do it, maybe dell send you another sparkly lcd.

Hopefully, that's what's in the box on top of my piano waiting for the DELL tech to install. Some customers have reported that DELL is sending out the Phillips LG #W4554 in their D8987 kit that is supposed to contain the Y4014 Samsung screen, so beware!
