Which 9200 panel do you have? - Page 14

I hope more LCD options(not resoluyion-wide) for 9300, too.

LG(LG-IBM, before)'s new notebook lines..(They use LG-Philips LCD) have three different options, now.

FBL (Fine Bright Lcd)
WVA (Wide View Angle)
Normal...

Interesting?

LG Philips makes Apples Cinema-line LCDs and they are the best...not for the 9200 case, though.

Dellbert, I agree with your opinion...its coating. Was OK till 1920*1200 17" LCD...something must be messed.

BTW, which do you end up using more- the i9200 or the i700m? Have you noticed any difference in wireless perfomance between the two?

My 700m basically lives in my backpack. I take it with me whenever I go *anywhere*. My 9200 pretty much stays put. I only move it around the house. I use the 9200 more and I love the keyboard, horsepower, and screen real estate. I use the 700m as a kick-ass PDA, and it works great for that, but I don't think I'd want to use it as my only machine.

I don't think I've noticed any big differences in wireless performance, but I did have to update the Intel drivers and disable Intel's broken WiFi power management. The TM1350 might be a little more stable driver-wise and it might have a small throughput advantage, but the 2200bg seems to be able to pick up weaker signals a little better (e.g., I can see more of my neighbors with it, but that's not a very useful feature for me).

Hey, Z. That's a nice 9200 config

My 9200 doesn't have any drop-out problems with the 2200bg. I'm using driver version 9.0.0.61, which I believe is the latest available from Dell's site. I'm letting Intel's client manage the connection rather than Microsoft's client. And I've got power management disabled and power set to max via the advanced dialog in the 2200bg config applet.

You're just lucky to live in Australia - everybody there is getting the good screen right from the start!

and New Zealand

still loving it and all good !!!

I got my replacement machine in which was supposed to have the 4014, but it came with the same 5412 that I ALREADY had before. This one was even WORSE. I'm tired of Dell and this is my first product from them. I got sent ALL over the fuggin world today with tech and customer service. Tomorrow I am returning both for a refund. This company sucks and the screens are horrible. If they could send me a nice screen I'd be totally happy. This machine rocks, I just cant look at the screen for any length of time. We will see what happens

When I received my 9200, it came with the 5412 LG Phillips screen which we all know sucks, so I called Dell and told them the problem on Thursday, 1/20/05. The rep said he knew nothing of the problem but would send DHL out to pick up the laptop that afternoon. So I removed the hard drive and placed a note inside the laptop describing what the problem was and how I would like them to replace the screen with the Y4014 (It was worth a shot). DHL arrived about two hours later took the laptop, and were on their way. After reading all the posts from others in this forum, I expected to #1, have the laptop come back with the same screen, and #2, not receive it back for about 8 business days as the rep had told me. Much to my surprise, I got the laptop back to me in Portland, Oregon, from Memphis, TN, on Monday, 1/24/05. I opened the box and saw a note inside that read, "LCD Replaced, BIOS Updated" so I turned it on and noticed right away the screen was working properly, no sparkles, and much more clear. Just to be sure they put the Y4014 in, I ran the Get-Edid program which verified it was the Y4014. Maybe I'm just lucky but Dell's service has been a great experience thus far.

Don't you have any sparkle on a white sheet ok XL or white paper of word/notead? My Y4014 has a bit and the effect is like sand on a ehite paper, so that the caracters are not very simple to read... I've disactivated clear type because they make a sort of brillant yellow around any letter.... using any kind of DPI the problem is always the same.... Have I a not good Y4014?
Y4014 has very little sparkle effect ( can almost be ignored ). But really has a color problem; dark colors treds to get their light-colored sheds and there is a light leakage all over the LCD specially on the bottom of the screen.

I must have one the few great Y4014's, virtually no sparkle, and very little light leakage...can easily be ignored.

W4554 Horrible!

Ok, I am on my 4th dell laptop because of Dell manufacturing defects.
I have been on with tech support for way too many hours and want to get the W4554 WUXGA LG Philips LPL0000 on my 9200 replaced. It is without a doubt the worst LCD I have ever looked at. It hurts my eyes to post this thread.

I have been told that there is nothing they can do and will not send me a new screen. I am one step short of smashing the screen and cashing in some Complete Care.

I am wondering if any of you have an extension of someone who helped you get a good screen, if so, PLEASE SHARE. This laptop will be going back tomorrow for a new manufacture if i cannot get this resolved in the next few days. Dude, Don't get a dell!!!

If you are all interested I can tell you about the experience I have had so far with dell. Extremly unhappy.

If anyone can tell me who they talked to it would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Try to hold someone at senior position ( such as a supervisor or a manager) and tell him to send an engineer with a Y4014 or D8987 screen (samsung part) to replace the existing one. It worked in my case. All the best.
ami111: Are you satisfied with your Y4014, or are you getting it replaced? Since you are in the UK, I guess sending it back is not an option.
My story:

First when I have received the system, the display was W4554 (LG Philips). It has a frosty/sandy/sparkly effect on the screen. That time I thought not to send the system but call an engineer to replace the screen by a Samsung one. After replacing the screen with Y4014, I have found that the frosty/sandy/sparkly has gone and instead there is a colour diffusion error on the screen. The colour seems to be a washed away effect and a lot of light leakage was there. So I rang up Dell again and asked for a CRA number to return the set and refund the money. The guy at tech support told me that his boss (manager) would be calling me shortly. A few hours after, I have got a call from one of the supervisor and he offered me another new machine to replace the existing one. Yesterday I have received the 2nd machine with Samsung Y4014 (part number is F7116) and I have to choose between them or????

Could you please help me to choose the correct machine out of these two?

First one:

2GHz – 755 – 2M L2 Cache – WUXGA( Samsung )
1 GB 333 MHz x 1 RAM
ATI Radeon 9700 128 MB Video Card
80 GB 5400 rpm Fizitsu HDD – Super silent technology
SONY DVD 8x R/W dual layer
Dell 1450 dual band Mini pci wireless
Speaker sound – clear/loud
Subwoofer – sound ok with slight distortion at high volume

CPU temp and fan speed by i4fangui software:

At CPU usage: 2% -- CPU temp: 24 C -- Fan speed slow: 73300 rpm
-- Hard Disk temp: 31 C

At CPU usage: 100% -- Temp = 49 C – Fan speed slow: 78499 rpm
-- Hard Disk temp: 33 C

Second one:

2GHz – 755 – 2M L2 Cache – WUXGA (Samsung)
1 GB 333 MHz x 1 RAM
ATI Radeon 9700 128 MB Video Card
80 GB 5400 rpm Mitsubishi HDD – Old noisy type
NEC DVD 8x R/W dual layer
Dell 1450 dual band Mini pci wireless
Speaker sound – clear/loud with a little distortion at high volume
Subwoofer – sound ok with slight distortion at high volume

CPU temp and fan speed by i4fangui software:

At CPU usage: 2% -- CPU temp: 27 C -- Fan speed slow: 77400 rpm
-- Hard Disk temp: 28 C

At CPU usage: 100% -- Temp = 53 C – Fan speed slow: 80344 rpm
-- Hard Disk temp: 30 C

A piece of work (mpeg2 to divx encoding) is taking same time by both the machine.
In terms of display ( LCD) both are same with second one is a little less light leakage.

Please advice which machine should I keep or shall I ask them to swap the display panel from second to first one ?
Are you saying that the second machine has a better display but that it seems to run hotter and the sound isn't quite as good? You didn't really comment on the first Y4014 vs the second Y4014. If my assumption is correct, yes, I would swap the panels, but I would do it myself. The link to the .pdf file is upwards a bit and apparently it's quite simple.
