Same here, just had my W4554 (definitely the Phillips 4554) replaced with the Samsung Y4014 ten minutes ago. We had the screen in the box for around two weeks while we uplifted our warranty to "in home." Nice having a technician coming to your home. I just can't believe the difference. Wow! I can even read the small fonts and see the small icons. Something is radically wrong with the Phillips. I just couldn't see a thing on it. Everything is so much clearer and brighter. Colors don't look washed out either. Can't tell right now if there's light leakage as I'm in a sunny room right now. I'm happy, and I can truly say that my 9200 is awesome. I want to thank everyone on this forum for these posts and your help through private messages.

Got my Dell Inspirion 9200 today.
It came with the F7116 panel, that both get-edid and Knoppix confirm is the Y4014 panel. So i'm happy The panel still has some sparkle, but not much. For now I like the panel I have on my i8600 better.

My config is:
Intel 2,1GHz P-M, 2GB Memory, NEC-6500A, Hitatchi 60GB 7200RPM, Carbon snapon, radeon9700 128MB.

Last week I ended up getting an i9200 replacement from dell (to replace my original i9200 which had no working usb ports and a Y4014 screen which I didnt like) and it the new i9200 came with the LG screen. With the two side-by-side the LG one looks almost yellow on white screen areas compared to the Y4014 so I can really understand how everyone loves the Y4014 comparitively. However, the LG did look amazing with movies playing, almost no light leakeage made dark movies look crip and vibrant instead of washed out at the bottom. Overall, its a great laptop, but in the end, I can't deal with the either of the screens so I asked for, and got a refund. Overall, customer service was very courteous (EPP customer service at least), though I had to call twice because the first rep never submitted the pickup for the refund to UPS.

Good luck to you all with i9200s, its really a shame that dell used (at least in my opinion) sub-standard screens on an otherwise great laptop.

Same here, I tried for about a week to get them to send me the screen so that I could replace it, it finally got requested, then one of their technicians cancelled it saying
Quote:
WUXGA LCDs are the highest resolution panels available in the market
today. These displays use an industry-standard process that applies a
textured coating to the inside of the polarizer to reduce glare and
improve light distribution. The WUXGA panel offers nearly twice as many
pixels as a WXGA panel [1.3MPixels vs 2.4MPixels]. These pixels are much smaller and denser than on WXGA panels. The smaller size, higher
density, and textured coating may cause the display to create a
sparkling or blurry effect while using light-colored backgrounds or on a white background, such as word processing applications. This is typical
of this technology and is needed to prevent glare and increase viewing
angles.

Since this behavior is inherent in the technology, replacing hardware
will not correct the issue.
So I gave up with e-mail and gave them a call. They verified which part I was getting before they sent it out, it got to me pretty quick, and I was able to replace the screen pretty easily. I'm much happier with this screen.

It's likely that you have the T4976. The same thing happened to me. I used the DOS program to check and it spitted out T4976. I think it's the LG and I'm happy with it.

Well I received my 9200 last week and it came with the LG 4976 screen. It is very bright, however on light backgrounds it is also very sparkly. I called Dell and after speaking to about 5 people they are sending out a replacement. I spent about 90 minutes total on the phone.

I did find it odd that they would not send out just a replacement panel. I offered this as a suggestion but was told they preferred to send out a whole new system. They said it will be the Samsung so we will see.

Overall the machine runs well and if it wasn't for the screen would be near perfect (a full size keyboard would not have hurt though)

I have the T4976 and I like it immensely. I only see the "sparkle" when I think about it, which is alot after visiting these forums. The other possibilities have "washed out" screens. What screen are you desiring??

I would like to get one of the Samsung screens. That's what I requested but they said they could not guarantee that part #.

Hopefully they will send it out and I will be able to compare the two first hand. I do like the brightness of the LG screen however the sparkle on light colored backgrounds is a big nuisance.

Hopefully it will not be a trade off between brightness and sparkle. Are there comparison pics anywhere of the LG vs Samsung screens? I have seen the one of the WUXGA ones but not WXGA screens

X4766 (pro:8, con:1) is wrong from the first page in the thread.

It is now more like (pro 12 con 2)

I have the W4554 virus

Yeah got me a nice 9200 and I knew it would be the crap screen and well it is .. actually it looks just like the i8600 with wuxga. Same sparkle, what can you say?

I looked at my friend's HP laptop 17" with 1680x1050 screen and its so crisp *and* clear. colors are deep and clean. the sparkle just makes the 9200 look very dirty. the hp screen is just so smooth, its like pure vanilla ice cream when looking at slightly off-white colors, whites are totally white.

i watched a dvd on this and sure, itis nice but i dont know if i can compare it to anything at this time. will be getting the 1440x900 screen version soon. i wont bother replacing the screen.. just the laptop!

Does anyone have a Samsung X4766 where the white colors look more off-white and kind of yellow? My first X4766 was extremely dim compared to my second one which is VERY bright. The white colors on the first one also looked much darker and more off white. I love my 2nd samsung screen. It has a shiny look to it.

Packing slip says W5411, but when I enter my service tag on the Dell website it says T4976.

Knoppix CD says LPL0000.

I'm guessing I have the LG WXGA+. Funny thing is I've seen Knoppix report LPL0000 for WUXGA screens in this thread as well.

got my 9200, no packing slip

Don't use parse-edid -- it won't tell you anything useful. Just dump the get-edid information and look for an ASCII string in the dump. You should see either W4554 or Y4014.

Ultra Sharp XGA+ is this same?

Just ordered the I9200 with the Ultra Sharp XGA+. I did not have an option when I built my machine. After reading numerous user forums I became alarmed that I was getting something I would be very unhappy with. I called Dell and they said the Ultra Sharp XGA+ is not a UXGA monitor and that they have changed the monitor just recently. Is this true or are they pulling the wool over my eyes? I assumed the "u" in Ultra was the "U" in UXGA. I hope I am wrong.
I believe you just ordered a lower resolution WXGA (1440x900). WUXGA is no longer available for 9200.

I have WXGA screen and love it.
