A lot of you know my Alienware Lappy Died after only a year of service. A lot of you also know that I'm in China and Alienware will do jack squat for me while I'm over here. they China Post will not let me send a 3700 dollar laptop over the mail, and I don't blame them. So, I can't get it back to America any time soon. My warrenty is good until Septermber 2005. Anyways, I'm stuck with a dead PC laptop and I want you guys to convince me not to buy a MAC. I been looking at them and reading up about them. I need some other opinions besides MAC users. Convince me to stay with PC. I will not stay with Alienware either way, sorry to say. They just don't fit the bill. Sorry. I know a lot of you love them, but if they won't bend over backwards to help thier own customers, why should I give them my money again?

Let the Mac Bashing begin.

well if you got an alienware in the first place then you probably appreciate gaming....now macs, well, they dont

Ive heard this saying that everyone the has a mac will fry a HD. I started thinking and both my aunt and grandma (only mac users i kno) have killed thier hard drives at least once (my grandma twice)...

I cant really bash macs tho, cause atleast they try. just dont buy one
post #3 of 28
Bash the mac? It only has one mouse button. That's the best I can come up with, I just don't care enough either way.

Macs are hard to get used to. THe one mouse button thing is really annoying, and they have realllly few goood games out there for a mac, and they are really bad at playing games. Plus, they are overpriced.

I think it needs to be said. Macs plain out suck. I won't knock Mac any harder than that, but I've not had a good experience with one yet.

Just about the only thing I'd ever use a mac for is audio and video editing, and most of the time a PC can do it better. I like Mac's editing software...but it really runs too sluggish most of the time. :/

agreed

macs have REALLY nice notebooks, ligher, thinner and better looking than any equally powered PC notebooks. And they do have regular 2 button/scrollwheel mice on them now, and OSX was very easy to learn and intuitive, they definitely have a one up on windows (a LOT more stable too). The only bad parts about macs are that the hardware is really expensive(though alienware is just as expensive) and that a lot of games don't come out for macs at the same time they come out for PCs, if they even make it to the mac at all. but yeah, I have several friends with powerbooks and they love them. So if you don't mind spending the extra money for the hardware and don't really need windows-specific software and don't mind not getting access to some pc games til later, then yeah, go with the powerbook.

I only know one Mac owner and they couldn't handle a PC. I never really cared enough to mess with the Mac so I can't offer an opinion on it. Im more interested in how Alienware handles the international owners. Its not good to have a dead alien in China. were you in the States when you bought it. I appologise for the memory lapse.

You can use a regular 2 button mouse on a Mac. You don't have to use their mouse. And as chile62 said they don't have as much virus or adware, only because it's not worth making those viruses since not many people use Macs. And yes, they are pretty stable.

Of course, you can't play games on a Mac since 1) not many games are out, 2) even the 6800 Ultras on a Mac doesn't compare to a PC 6800 Ultra, and 3) let me quote someone I know "real people don't use Macs." But let me say this, their interface, Aqua, looks very cool.

Actually I have used a mac, I even bought the new Imac when it came out, the one with the flat sceen on a half sphere. That was a piece of art not a computer. When I compare it to a pc, I thought that it was a little slow compared to my pc. But now they have come a long way. One thing I always thought was "why is everything slower on the mac, processor (I know they used an Alpha risc chip and now the motorola chip) but like the graphics card was always a step down from what the pc had.

It will all depend on what you are wanting to do. I like doing video on the Mac and everything else on the PC. So if videos and pictures are what you are into then by the mac otherwise Stay away from it.

I am NOT bashing them, they are awesome computers for what they do, but thats about it. Also think about it, only 8% of computers out there are Macs.

Peace or Piece, you choose.

I was in the states when I bought it. I lived in Chattanooga at the time and my family is still there. I was going to send it to them, but China wont' let me send it over the mail. I'm hoping someone from AW will see this and take pity.

You can't really compare a PC to a Mac. It's like comparing an apple to an orange. They are two things, and different architectures. Keep that in mind.
Apple's video editing software like Motion and audio editing software like Logic are awesome. They are solid software for those use. Apple's hardware are also solid. But if you need gaming, you have to look somewhere else. For gaming they downright suck. But for everything else it can do as much as a PC can if not better.

Surely you could pack it in the original packing and pay extra for insurance purposes to cover accidental damage and if it is lost in transit to cover your loss?
Make sure you pay enough to get a new area51m 7700.

Macs these days aren't really "pure" Macs anymore, if you think about it. The processors are co-developed by IBM.....I think that fact alone makes most of the recent Macs a semi-hybrid as it is. Secondly, Macs are built w/ underclocked hardware, so as to make use of passive cooling and doing away with fans, that's probably why it feels slower. So, yeah, I think the question of Mac vs. PC revolves around whether or not you want the maximum bang for your buck (PC) with higher unstability (think about it, there are numerous combinations of hardware which Microsoft Windows have never ever even thought of that can cause massive problems due to incompatibility, while Apple has an iron grip on standardization of their hardware) or high stability but something that feels like a child's toy (1 button mouse, do I really have to say anything else?).....the advantages and disadvantages are different for both rigs, I have to say.
