My kid's machine was lagging big time. I did the standard spyware and virus checking and all is now well but......
Since I had already set her up with "always present/on" spyware and virus protection my first attempt at locating the issue was by using check disk.
I selected the check disk options to fix any errors while in XP. The message came back - "can't open volume for direct access - would you like to check on next boot". I selected ok and rebooted. The messages before windows loads is:
Cannot open volume for direct access.
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Windows has finished checking the disk.
Now I can't stop these messages from coming up each boot before windows loads. It isn't causing a problem but its a nuisance.
I searched the forums and found nothing. Anyone got an idea how I can stop this from happening each boot?
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
