Awesome machine, awesome support! Thanks for the prompt response Luke!

I wish I had waited to send mine off til today, but sager wanted it for a personal checkup so no worries.

Heres a clip of the update I posted earlier to help in determining if you're running where you oughta be:
Update 12/26/2004: My machine is in transit via UPS, so I thought I would remove any doubts about what Intel in their words "allow for the optimal operation and long-term reliability of Intel processor-based systems,".

How do you boot to dos in XP? W/ the old win 98, I will have to have floppy boot disk
post #25 of 207
pop a floppy in.. right click your floppy drive in my computer, scale down to format and it will open another window. At the very bottom it has a box you can check to make a dos boot disk.. do this.. once thats done, copy the files Luke gave you on to the same floppy. Restart with floppy in drive and follow my prevous post before this one

Syn, I dont have a floppy drive handy, but can do this on a CD instead of floppy?

I thought floppy drive died a while ago. Now I sorta wish I have an external floppy drive

Thanks Syn

I owe you one

I just flashed mine and the fan stays on.... its a little loud but according to mobilmeter my temp is 43C, the coolest its ever been.
personally, I would rather have a slightly loud system over one that cooks.

Ok so what do you do if the fans don't throtle, they just stay on...
No fan throttling for me either. They just stay at max and the processor sits at 31 degrees at idle. It's better than cooking them, but there must be a happy medium. I suspect that there will be another bios revision coming....

Fungo im really not sure.. I can only tell you try and see...copy to cd and manually go into dos through windows.. its a crappy way to go.. Dos = floppies..was no such thing as cd's back then lol.. Get yourself a floppy.. everytime I think I don't need one it rears its ugly head. I probably use a floppy once a year.. Anytime you flash its best to do it outside of windows.. hit best buy or somewhere and buy an external..flashing through windows has a 50/50 chance of sucess or something completely screwed up heh..

What ? Both fans stay at max all the time after the BIOS-flash ??? That can´t be true, or what ??? Max is very loud. Is it really max ? So I won´t flash that - better heat up to 70C once and leave it..... I don´t think that max cooling all the time was necessary. Why not just give a little ignition help for 60C and leave everything as it is ? So both fans all the time at max, that´s too much noise for me, sorry. Anyway, fine they did anything.
They just keep on going and going and going and going and.........Where have I heard that before. It is a bit noisey but that chirping was worse for me. From what I have seen from Sager, the fix is something (in a nice way) to shut everyone up about the chirping and the heat for now. Giving us an option is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, which some companies do. I am sure they will keep looking into it and in a short while offer up a better solution.
Hmm. Fan speed up to 69C would be acceptable for me, higher speed not. Also I do not have a chirping, so ---- if anyone can definetely say at what speed the fan stays.... does it get louder at 70C or not, or..... oops, I guess, it doesn´t get so hot if both fans are running all the time. Hmmm.....

Let´s hope they really go on working on that. Will this Flash be undone if I flash it with the last BIOS again ? If yes, I could try out. Or maybe with winphlash ?
I wouldn't say the fan speed is maxxed but both are running at medium, about what they would run if temp was at 65C or so. All I know is that the air blowing out the back is much much cooler than before, and the top (palm rest portion) is also much cooler. However they don't slow down once the temps drop below 45C. I've been running it for more than an hour after the flash and the temp hasn't risen past 44C. Anyway the cooler the better.....Also the fans don't seem to fluctuate at all as they did before... Up, down, max then slightly down so on and so on...
The way I see it I have not gone above 52deg and with the fans always moving it saves wear and tear. If the fans worked normally with out the wiggle or jittering than my last statment would be false. I know you think I am crazy but with how often the fans go on and off and the temp spikes and add all the jittering of the fans all that adds up to damage. Jittering components cause vibrations that will cause harm. If the fans are always moving you do not have that problem. Unfortunately right now they spin full throttle and I will live with that.
Sorry I lied. They move at medium speed.
I did promise my own results. Prevously I idled between 60-61C not I idle around 55-56C However running benchmarks once shoots me to 73C and running them a couple times goes slightly higher, about 75C after that its black screen and reboot. So the filmware helped some but isn't a fix for my heating problem..If I stayed idled alot it would be fine.. even running the tv turner shoots me back to 61C.. And I do alot of intensive stuff on my laptop so my temps will be cooking on average 14 hours a day.. heh.. Lukes been working with Sager to get my issue resolved so im not worried
post #40 of 207
Oh my god, what did I do ? I flashed this and as a result I have to bear a absolutely inacceptable noise. It is so da**ed loud, I hate it, I really hate it. It´s not max speed but it´s higher than in normal temp range (45-59C) - and what´s worse, now the first fan also works all the time in higher speed. So it´s doubled louder than before. I do not want this noise, it makes me really angry. Sounds like my hair dryer.....

But imagine what, you can not reverse that. I made a backup with WinPhlash before and restored afterwards -- fans keep on going. Used flash CD, no changes, fans keep going. It seems as if this H8 is some special BIOS part that is not affected with the normal flashs. If I knew that, I would have kept the old BIOS and prefer heating up once for two minutes and then have an acceptable noise.

Ah, and one more thing ---- imagine what, the second fan didn´t start once after booting - after the new update !!!! No joke !

So I will ask support for a flash file to reverse that h8-flash again. I can´t understand how you can bare this noise. For me it sounds horrible.
