8887 firewire port is not working- dv camera

My 8887 does nothing when I plug my dv panasonic camera into the firewire port. I plug this same camera with the same cable into my friend's desktop computer and it works fine, but my 8887 doesn't recognize the camera at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the firewire controller to no avail. Any ideas?

I've no experience with camera and firewire, but I use HDD and firewire and camera and USB. Try some of the following:
1.a. Verify the FW port works at all by trying a different device.
1.b. Is camera power on?
2. Uninsert and reinsert FW plug, waiting a few seconds in between.
3. Reinsert with camera power on before insertion.
4. Try Control Panel, Scanners and Cameras, Add Device.
5. Did the camera come with a drivers disk? Use it or check the camera website for drivers.
6. Try a Control Panel, Add Hardware. Should be same as 4, and again it's helpful to have drivers.

Thanks, but I think it's something messed up with my motherboard. I ended up just buying a cheap pcmcia firewire card and it works fine.
