9860c Cooling Issues

I'm having issues with the hard drive getting very hot and causing the laptop to freeze up... What can I do to keep the laptop cooler? it seems that the fan area sits very close to the desk and doesnt allow for proper ventelation.... I'm getting very frustrated with the laptop freezing up... ::sigh:: its only a week old what should I do?

Email Sager/your reseller and let them know what's going on. Unless you're in an overheated room, that isn't normal behavior.

If you're worried about the fans not getting enough air, prop up the back of the machine by about an inch. If it still overheats, there may be a problem with one of your hardware components, or your cooling system. Or you're operating inside of a campfire. Something like that.

Did you look up the fan-wire ? Maybe it´s not connected correctly ?

I just propped mine up and the temp dropped from 61C to 53C.

Might I suggest those coloured paper holders (1/2 domes). Prop a couple of those underneath at the rear of the notebook to prop it up and give you a better typing angle. Works well with my 8200 and should work well with the 9860 and it's cheap, looks great and damn site better than duct taped chopsticks. Merry Christmas all...

Using mobmeter, my hard drive (60 GB, 7200 rpm) never gets above 40 degrees.

Do not use the evercool pads with the 9860. They will cause an increase in temperature because they suck air away from the intake fans.

I just got an NP9860 and am starting to learn its quirks. At what temp do yours normally sit at, just web browsing, if its been on a while?

CPU hovers between 47-60 (then fan turns on)
HD hovers around 47
Room temp is 65.
With the new firmware that is given in another post on here my CPU temp stays below 50 since the fans seem to run all the time. I was rather worried before when it would get up around 60 before the fans kick in...

reverse the fans on the evercool pads so that they push air in as opposed to suck air out of your intake fans

Is that an offical firmware update or are they still working on another one? Right now my temp is like a roller coaster.

What Id really like is just a self control option. Is that even possible, or is it all hardwired?

or just get an Antec LapCool2. I did, and it's working great with my 9860.

what are your temps on mobmeter?
Using MobiMeter my 9860 temp is around 60 - 65 in the office and 50 - 60 at home. I use Visual Studio, iTunes, SQL Server and Outlook. The fans seem to be on. Is this temp normal? My spec includes 2 x 80 5,400 SATA Drives and I was wondering would this cause more heat than just 1 Drive? Also, I've read about the firmware update to leave the fans on, but what is the noise level like? To be honest I find it quite loud as it is. I'm interested in the Lapcool2 that was mentioned would this help?
