I recently received my new 5160 with an OEM NEC ND 6500a dual layer burner. In the past I have always purchased and installed retail boxed versions of optical drives from both Plextor and Lite-On. After installing any of these drives I would automatically go to their respective web sites and upgrade the firmware to insure better media compatibility 
and return from time to time to further update as they became available. After a day or two with my new notebook I went to the Dell downloads page to do this but didn't find any updates for the NEC. Next I went to the NEC site but couldn't find anything there either.Although I am not currently on my notebook I beleive the firmware version that came with my Inspiron is 202c. Now my question is does Dell not provide updated firmware for their supplied dvd drives 
and if not does NEC provide updates for their OEM dvd drives.
If neither of these companies supply updates then who, if anybody , does?
