Hey everyone
I've been interested in buying a notebook computer for a while, and I've been stumbling through sites looking for good deals. I think I'm leaning toward getting that Sager 8886 that i keep reading in the posts and I wanted to know some stuff..

What are some concerns that i should be aware of?
I've read some stuff about dead pixels and stuff, but is returning it within the 30 days the best thing i should do?
Does the OS come pre-installed (if selected)? or do I have to install it myself?
How much is shipping if i bought it from pctorque? I live like 60 minutes away from pctorque (that's if u ship from plymouth tho)

and...damn they cost alot
what else can i blabber about? oh yea!, could you guys gimme some pointers on buying a laptop? This would be my first time buying one.. thanks in advanced

For concerns, the only ones I can think of are that it's a heavy unit with about 2 hours battery life and that you are very limited on your choices of carrying cases.
For dead pixels, it's 5 or more to get an exchange otherwise, all you can do is do a money back refund. For a money back refund you get it all back minus shipping unless you pay by credit card, then there's a 2.5% processing fee that can't be refunded.
In all *honest guessing* I'd say there's a dead pixel maybe 1 out of 30 computers in the 8886. That's going from what customer's have reported. It's pretty good in comparison to other brands and their policies, but dead pixels suck regardless.
Shipping is $25 ground, $55 2nd day air, and $85 next day air.
The OS comes preinstalled if you order it with the option.

Just keep reading all the posts on this forum. There is a lot of good info on why people bought a Sager instead of a Dell, Toshiba, etc. I just bought a 5660 myself. I have a few posts concerning my decision. Perhaps they will help clarify or confuse!

Everyone here is great, so just ask when you have specific questions. We will do our best to help.

I don't think you would be disappointed getting a Sager, but the 5660 and the 8886 are large and they are heavy. I got the 5660 not to replace my main desktop, but as a powerful machine that would allow me to do my development work anywhere in my house without cpu, memory and graphics restrictions, plus I saved a few bucks by not getting the 8886 that I could spend on a case, trackball and a couple of applications. If you want a do it all machine, the 8886 is a killer. I haven't seen anything for the price that can do what it can.

Do your homework and make up your mind what is important to you in this decision. What is great for me may not be great for you, brand wise. You will find your machine, so be patient.

Best of luck,
Martin Parrott

Concerns...none.
Dead pixels...answered.
OS...pre-installed. Drivers all installed if you choose OS, if not, you have to install drivers on your own.
shipping...answered.

They do cost quite a bit, but if you shop around, you'll find that it's the best you'll get for your money. Other companies offer the same price for something that doesn't have a 64 MB video card or isn't as fast or doesn't have as much RAM. Believe me, Sager is the best.

As far as the price goes, you will get no laptop that has what these have for the price they come at from PCTorque and even if you go straight from Sager or from one of the many other fine resellers like powernotebooks.com. Some resellers overcharge a ton, but PCTorque and powernotebooks are within a hundred of each other usually... and I know personally that PCTorque has the best service you could get PERIOD. Considering what these laptops can do, their versatility and uses, the price is spectacular. I only wish I had the money :-) Read some of the reviews in the review section to learn about their uses, for one. Best of luck to you no matter what your decision! As was stated, these forums are loaded with great info and top notch people... Welcome and I hope we can be of help! :-)
