Attempted scam in progress - any thoughts?

I've just had my Asus M6 on eBay. Stupidly, I didn't check out each bidder and a chap with zero feedback jumped in at the end. Checking his/her details after the auction, there was the ominous news that in spite of the supposed US address the invoice would be sent to our favorite country for internet scams - Nigeria.

Then, sure enough, I get this:

hello seller,
i receive a message that am the winner for this item .and am ready to buy .so i want you to send your address together with the shipping amount to nigeria via ups and the amount of the item.and this the shipping address below .
oyebola ijiwoye
39 ibadan road
ile-ife
osun-state
23436
NIGERIA
THANKS,i will wait your email.
brown pink

Normally, I just ignore these types of scams, but this time the dude/duddette didn't just make me a silly offer, but stuffed up my auction. So I'm in the mood to play him/her/it/them along. I've asked how they propose paying and assume it will be with a stolen credit card or cashier's check, but I'm open to any suggestions on being an asshole.

Cheers

Steve

Why risk it. Just refuse to sell it and report it to eBay.

Just typing in the words bidpay and nigerian in Google gives you many details of these scams: http://www.google.com/search?q=bidpay+nigerian, but I would never send things to countries like Nigeria regardless whether I know it's a scam or not...

Africa is evil...

Do they even have access to the interweb in Africa?

What?! You mean all of those emails about free money from Nigeria are fake? Scams? Frauds? Doh!!! Gotta go close my bank account!

Yeah, not to be racist or single out a country (or continent ), but declining bids from users claiming to be from a certain location is sometimes a necessary preventative measure.

You may have a built-in "out" in that many laptops cannot be legally exported.

Just as an aside I know a fella who let some Nigerian gentlemen tap him for over $100,000! Cost him his home & his wife, besides the money...

Just curious, did you specify that you would ship to the US only? That's what I do, I don't even bother with Canada.

I'm guessing export taxes.

Why not get your friend Dubya to invade? Seems popular these days.

Report it to eBay get them to find solutions to it. Maybe they can start by providing a caveat to all customers to their site.

I've no intention of sending anything (real) and I'm not worried about eBay. M<y original intention was to do something along the lines of this: http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/

or this:

http://www.p-p-p-powerbook.com/

But I'm not sure if I can maintain the effort. I'll keep stringing them along until I get bored or homicidal.

no export taxes to canada... something called free NAFTA i believe? anyhow, just don't mess with it and either report it to ebay and relist or sell it to the next highest bidder. then send a letter to nigeria telling them to **** off. how come rwandans don't do this sort of thing?

On the bidpay website they warn about nigerian stuff as well so it's probably a scam.

Found this comment on a site

I had a Nigerian buyer who was using the Bidpay to scam unsuspecting sellers. He used the Bidpay system where Bidpay sends initial payment confirmation to ask me to send the item I am selling right away. He had the Fedex come to pick up the item right away before I receive the money order. Bidpay states that it is safe to send the item after the second payment confirmation email stating that the payment is on its way to me. This buyer demanded shipment before the second confirmation email was sent to me from Bidpay. When I insisted that he wait until the second confirmation email is received by me from Bidpay, he threatened to rescind his payment to Bidpay and change his mind. When I persisted, I never heard from him again. This is a scam. Sellers beware.

Keep in mind thousands of Americans came to Canada when Bush got re-elected
