Why do games still come on multiple CDs?? DVD players are pretty much the standard now. I remember my dads old Gateway Pentium II 450 MHz with 64 MBs Ram a 9 GB Harddrive and a sweet@s$ 16 MB 3DFX Card had a DVD player. Sure it was an upgrade then but arent they pretty much standard now?

half Life 2 is on one DVD. I have one DVD - collectors edition

DVD-R's cost more money then CD-R's therefore, Valve=cheap

Cost

The reason is that it is cheaper to make a game on 5 CDs than it is to make it on 1 DVD because of the higher production and duplication costs. Same thing with Deus Ex 2, it came on 2 CDs but the UK release was on DVD, not sure why, it was most likely for the extra layer of practical copy protection that DVD provides over regular CDs considering CD burners are everywhere.

Yeah it's getting out of control. The CD release of Unreal Tournament 2004 is six disks.

KOTOR = 4 Discs
EQ2 was like 8 to 12 discs...lol
Half Life 2 was released on DVD in the US as a collectors edition. I goofed up and got it at Wally World and got the 5 discs of death.

suggestions?

damn thatsa alot of cds. good luck to anybody thats waiting for their 7700.i cancelled my order today .i hate being lied to and speaking to customer service reps that dont speak english very well.though ill give the ones that do know english some credit, it takes a llot of creativity to fill in spoken sentences with ahhh and oooh and duh.i am currently looking for a better laptop experience.does anyone know of any news on upcoming laptops(no aliens please), new technology to be released in 05? ive found decked out 7700 with dvrs and tv tuners for 3400at other sites. i guess the other 600 i wouldve paid was for the aws glowing eyes. i am still uncertain of a choice though.can anyone give up some info on any new tech ?or maybe a 512 mb video card release for customizable laptops? should i purchase in the summer? links and sites are welcome as well thanx for your input. good luck to the loyal aware fans. ill spend my money elsewhere.

Try to get DVD versions. It's so much simpler, no need to swap disks when installing. So far, i got UT2004 and HL2 on DVD.

I suggest an Alienware. and thanks for going off topic. nimrod. Merry Christmas.

I waited on getting Half Life 2. main reason, I have a number of ongoing games now to keep me occupied while the price drops. I did get the new Half Life 2 demo. The backup takes 2 CDs.

Hater, spreading hate just in time for Christmas. You know what, no one gives a $h!t about your problem especially after the manner in which you had presented it to us. This is my message to you;
