Hi,
I am interested in purchasing the new 8890 for a portable Avid editing platform. According to Avid the host computer must have multiple pci bus segments in order to access their hardware as well as an external drive at the same time. Does anyone know if the 8890 have multiple pci bus segments? Also is the onboard raid controller on a different bus segment than the built in 1394 firewire port. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Here are the specs from Avid.
" Avid Xpress Pro with Avid Mojo requires platforms with more than one PCI bus segment whenever external storage is used. The configurations qualified by Avid will accommodate users’ requirements for local storage and/or Avid Unity LANshare EX shared storage. Avid Mojo connects to the host via an IEEE-1394 cable. For proper real-time performance, Avid Mojo must connect to a PCI bus segment that is not shared with any SCSI or Fibre Channel storage controller being used for local or shared storage, and for Windows PCs, with any Gbit Ethernet controller to be used with LANshare EX storage solutions.
Avid Xpress Pro with Avid Mojo must be used on Avid-qualified platforms. It is important to note that most notebook computers do not have multiple bus segments so you cannot attach external storage to a notebook with either the Avid Mojo attached. For more details on PCI Bus Segment requirements see PCI Bus Segmentation Requirements for Avid Adrenaline and Avid Mojo"
Thanks again
