Overclocking the 6800

Thread Starter
What are some of the settings that people are running their 6800 Go video cards at? When I tried the optimal settings in coolbits, it seemed a little high, so I wanted to see what other people were successfully running theirs at.
Optimal settings are usually 300/699 i think.. which is a nice running speed.. its what I ran the old notebook at..you have to understand the 6800 comes under clock..

I have a question Syn about your overclocking configuration. With your current configuration of 300/699, does this mean your Sager 6800go has a GDDR3 (GDDR3 execute at 600 MHz, right?) instead of a DD2 memory configuration. I ordered an AW and the 6800go which has a DD2 (300 core/ 300 memory, I think?). I doubt that the memory can be overclock to 600 MHz. Thanks in advance for your reply... PS, I'll add this to a new thread...

360/710 just long enough to benchmark 54710 Aquamark3

I am a newbie in clocksetting and all. After I installed the collbit2 reg, my default setting is as follows:
125mhz core clock frequency
332mhz memory clock frequency

Does this seems a little conservative? or am i reading it wrong? When you said 300/699, does that mean 300 mhz for core clock frequency and 699 mhz memory clock frequency? That looks awefully high from my default setting.

These clocks are for 2D-Modus only.

newbie here.

i applied the regedit for overcloking. now, when i try to boost the clock up 300/699 (Performance lvl 3d) and test it, it says my system cant handle it. anybody help me out? when i do optimal estimate, i can only get up to 270/639
post #8 of 44
thnx. When i look at my 3d performance, it's set as:
250mhz core/332 memory. Seems a little conservative. But i dont think i will mess with it since all my games play very well at this factory setting.

332/680 and runs just fine, maybe alittle more fan activity but nothing to worry about.

overclocking

i'm running at 370/670. i can't get the memory to go any higher. i'm using NV tweak that requires you to test your overclocking before it will accept it. that's as fast as it will allow me to go.

No it doesn't use DDR3...

You have to select 3d performance to get the 3d clocks. Everyones isn't going to run the same. Some, like Yellow's may run higher. (Nice score Yellow) Pick Opitimize frequancy..This is about where the card should have came clocked at..

If you cant get over 275 in your clock, then do a search on the boards for MobleMeter sometimes mobmeter and test your temps. I can't go over 300 myself and I know its because just at idle im running 61C and can get as hot as 73C.. My old notebook ran perfectly (sniffs) Just shot Sager off an email to find out what my next step should be..

Ok Syn...after a bit push and encouragement, I finally mess around with the clock settings. I chosed the "optimal setting" option by nvidia. I got 299/696. Then I ran Half-Life 2 stress test. This is what I got:
71.44 fps
Every setting at max:
1400x1050
Model, texture, water, shadow: high
antialiasing: 6x
Anisotropic: 16x
Shadow detail: high

Not bad!

Edit: I am idling at 51-55C. When running game it stays at 62-63c. Sometimes 65 max. I am hoping that's normal

What is everyone using to overclock the GPU? I'm personally using powertools, but not all to happy with it.

Yes those are the temps I ran with on my first notebook. Very good.. my second runs at 61C on idle to high so i can't over clock at all temps jump to 73C.. waiting to hear back from tech support this week. Either a fan problem or AS5 wasn't applied correctly

That's a real bummer. I guess some of these 9860s are not created equal.

can you overclock..

can you overclock it even higher if u get a cooling base with say 6 fans underneath your 9860? i just ordered one and am considering buying a fandock to rest my new 3.8p4 9860 on it? would this allow me to reach higher marks ?

Did you have a look at the fans, Syn ? Do they all work as they should ?
I haven't i'll probably flip it over tonight and look at them..

I do hear them running but doesn't mean all of them are..

I'm running 350/707 tested stable on my sager 9860. 5 more mhz up and it crashes. D3 on ultra setting runs nicely
