Sure enough, prices starting to fall after Christams.

Ordered my i9200 on Monday, and sure enough prices have dropped and it hasn't even been a week yet. New: free CD/DVD-Combo drive upgrade. And every option in the customizing section dropped $5 or so. Great news for those of you wishing to spend some of that Xmas money. Should I try and squeeze a few bucks back outta Dell, or is not even worth the hassle dealing with the "operators"? I guess the grass is aways greener on the other side and the longer you wait the more current technology cheapens...
<-- for Dell

It is your right to get a price match within your 21-day trial period. Note that BEGINS when the laptop is shipped, not when you place the order. Dell updates their deal packages often, and the sales reps are given a lot of room to make you happy with your purchase. Just ask!

I was also told that they match only after $50 is surpassed; that is, if you price an identical system is that only $49 cheaper than the one you ordered, they won't do anything.

That was just my experience, however.

prices i the UK are shit, tey are only doing discounts on the 1000, 1150, 1560 and the 510m i heard in the UK they are keeping the UK 8600 on sale just upgrade the memory etc....

In Aus they have completely stuffed up, on 1 page they say $2069 with 725 to 765 then on th customize etc page the cheapest is $2299 and there is no option to upgrade the procesor. No $ off and only 1 minor freebie on each model. Hope it improves in the new year, though they say these prices are until 28/1/04

the 600 is staying at the same price becase they are continuing it just updating the hard drive and ram

I am still waiting for Double Layer DVD recorders to arrive, to use my unique equipment then promo the disc on my I8600, this will allow me to get longer films on at SP with up to 4 Hr on a 8.5GB disc. Backing up discs was great but I could never out films lie the 1960 version of "The Alamo" on as soon as the DL show up I can put films like "Storm of the Century" "The Untouchables", and the "Robin Hood: Prince of Theives" all still a flipper onto a one sided disc I don't feel like going out and rebuying movies that already anamorphic. The Thing, Top Gun, would have to be bought but I have a heck of big VCR collection to put on that are just not being put on DVD example 1965 Dolby Surround version of "The Battle Of the Bulge" or Region 1 of "The Dam Busters" still for sale on VHS.

Lazy ol me still has to get up and put the other R2 discs in one at a time, not like my 300+1 Sony Changers, lets face it I am spoiled rotten, the other reason is the chances of a sucess to a waiting wheelchair. Falling on your ass and back can be very painful the seatbelts don't stop the dumping or embarassment of people gawking at you ready to call 911. I use to drive ambulances they are not the most comfortable items to arrive at, the wait, and eventually the bill owed.

Dual layer burners are already out. I bought an internal one and converted it to external to use on all of my laptops. The problem is dual layer media still is expensive, e.g. $10 per DVD. Next year prices are expected to drop.

i meant to say the 8600 here in england is going to be just small updates and call it 8700

-dont worry about technology's prices dropping, that means bigger and better things are on the way. if no one purchased technology at what it costs now then companies will not have any funding to research and develop new and better products.

I've seen them as low as $7 at the computer show. It'll be nice when they're under $1 like single layers. But I suppose that'll be far in the future - maybe 6 months?

Be careful with those cheap DL disks, alot of recorders won't record on them, since they aren't supported in their firmware yet...
