888E(8887) DVD/CDRW Not fully reading CD or DVD

My 888E's dvd/cdrw drive seems to have problems reading the whole of any cd. It tends to sticks at certain points when trying to read the disc.

I've tried cleaning the lens, lightly oiling the cd drive runners and I still get the same problems.

Anyone know a solution or does anyone have copy of the service manual?

I'm pretty sure that the service manual for the laptop does not provide additional information on the CD drive. It may have a bad head movement mechanics and needs to be replaced. I had that happen to a couple of Sony units in the past - They did not tolerate Cigerette smoke very wekk and tended to "gunk up" at the 50/60% point.

do you have two drives that are acting up? I have two drives that seem to be doing the same thing... does your computer ever just shut off when the cd-rom drive starts? let me know if you find anything.
