Place referred to by Phillips, and that place called Sager for parts and was told "out of stock no ETA on when they will have em in"

So I lucked out and Phillips paid out the original purchase price for the laptop nuked the warranty and I now have a 9890

For those of you who start experiencing artifacting AGAIN after "appearing" to fix it with special ATItool settings, you may find that doing a clean driver uninstall and reinstall, artifacting will go away again. It may be possible that after a period of time, the ATI driver gets "out of whack" and needs to be fresh-installed again. Sounds like something else I know...WinXP. Just thought I'd pass it on since it worked for me. Good luck all and congrats Shadoejack on the new 9890. Please take your praises of your new rig elsewhere though, because it will just make all of us cry. All kidding aside, let us know how it is.

Also ALWAYS uninstall ATI tools and reboot before uninstalling the video drivers. After this uninstall the old drivers, reboot, install the new drivers, reboot again, and then reinstall ATI Tools and again reboot.

If you don't you could have two ATI Tools runing in the background - each with a different set of setting. End result is artifacting and a very HOT machine (CPU Usage of ATI Tools).

You are so right G Ohama. I should have mentioned that. I was just trying to make a quick post before going out of town for the day.

I want to thank all of those who have posted in this thread. This is by far my favorite AA support group. To all my Artifacts Anonymous friends, don't give up. There is life without artifacts. Maybe we should send an invitation to the folks at Clevo as they are obviously in the denial stage.

Great to hear that your problems disappeared. However, given the widespread incidences of artifacting and whatnot here (and loosening the screws being a reported *fix* for awhile), I have to wonder if your fix isn't only temporary. Hopefully it's not, but even so, I'd still maintain a cleaning regime, etc. in order to ward off the evils of overheating/artifacting.

I've started to experience the same problems with artifacting with my 8790 as the rest of you guys. It started about 1 month ago and has just got worse to the point that most times the Screen is washed right out.

Funny thing is I un-installed the ATI Drivers and the Screen is perfectly okay that way, but I have to run it at a lower resolution. I do have the 3 Year Warranty with Shipping included so I have a couple of years left on the Warranty yet ...

Who do I need to call about this, I bought it from PcTorque, but do I contact them or Sager ... ???
You could start here w/ Sager: http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/tech_support.html

Or you might give PCT a holler and see where they direct you. I'm guessing they'll point you to Sager first, though.

Might want to clean your computer out and see if that helps any. If your GPU overheated, though, it's RMA time.

The Computer is & was clean, I blow out the Fan's quite often so I don't know if the GPU was over heating or not. If it was it was doing it while I wasn't even running anything on the Laptop at all, as soon as I would boot into Windows the Screen would mess up ...

Anyway I seemed to have fixed it for the time being by UnInstalling all the ATI Drivers & Installing the latest Omega Drivers. There was still just a little hint of Artifacting after I did that, so I loosened the screws under the Keyboard & that has cured it for now. It's been running for over 2 hr's without any artifacts so time will tell I guess.

Thanks for the Info on who to contact though, I'll see how this works out & if need be contact them, I still have almost 2 years left on the Extended Warranty so I'm covered for awhile anyway. I just hate to have to go through the hassle of sending it in & wondering if it will actually be fixed or not ...

Don't forget to lift up the keyboard and clean out that area also as it is also part of the cooling system.

I did that but it didn't look dirty or dusty under the Keyboard. Do you know or anybody else know if the cable under the Keyboard can be disconnected & then the Metal Plate under the Keyboard taken out...???

That's probably where the dust might be if there is any to be had ...
I have been drinking and I am not in the best mood but here goes. The cable that connects the key board is detachable....squeaze the sides or just figure it out like your life depended on it. next the plate does come out, first unscrew the perimeter screws. Then there is a secret screw under the sticker in the middlle of the plate. Remove the sticker and screw.. Now the fun part. Pull the plate up. If it resists it is because the thermal tape is holding...do not let it defeat you...you have gone this far and you are not going to chicken out this time! Clean ,clean, clean... Oh yeah you probably should have already cleaned the heat sink on the other side already... Good luck!
The cable can be disconnected. Just be careful of the little plastic "locks" that keep the cable inside it's connector. If you slide the white locks up, that should unlock it and the cable should slide right out. Makes it a lot easier to get in there and clean things out. Just be careful of those little white locks as they're pretty fragile.

forgot to mention that you should pull off and clean the tape they use on top of the GPUs. GET some thermal paste to replace the tape that they use, before you even start this project so you you not hate me for encouraging you..Good luck..you will need it.
This was discussed somewhere else. I believe G-Omaha discouraged replacing the tape w/ thermal tape on the GPU. Maybe he can chime in here w/ more specific reasons, etc. I just seem to remember having seen something of the sort in another thread (I think).

Now the real "poop". You can lift off the metal plate without removing the cable. I posted how in another thread regarding artifacting. I discourage remove that cable as it is very very fraglile. Also, you will meet some resistance when pulling up the metal plate because there is a heat synce/grid attached to it (generally under the backspace area). I also would not apply AS5 as this is not a "solid" fit and tape will work better "filling in the gaps".

Thanks Guys for the Info, I did get the Plate off & clean the insides good. There wasn't that much dust but there was some.

I probably will have to RMA it eventually as it still wants to Artifact to some degree, I'll wait until after the Holidays and give PC Torque a call & see what they want me to do with it.

My 8790 had been artificacting after long amounts of running 3d games so I bought a laptop cooler and cleaned out the entire thing and it has not helped the laptop at all and now it artifacts in the windows desktop. I guess I have to RMA again. Does the artifacting indicate perment damage to the graphics card or is it just because it is over heating at this moment?
