Please help! Can't decide between Dell 700M and Fujitsu S6231

Hello. I am a grad student and looking for a nice small laptop to bring to school. I am thinking of Dell 700M. I really like its design and the price. I am waiting for a good deal as I heard that there might be one coming out in Jan. Then I came across Fujitsu notebook especially Lifebook S6231 or s6210. Both of them seem really nice and compact. The price is a bit higher than the 700M but not much. I wonder if you could give me some opinions or if you have any experiences on these two systems?

-Thank you very much.

You should (and will) find LOTS of info on these forums to compare the two. Just search for them in the search box.

But in my humble opinion, go with the Fujitsu.

i've used a fujitsu s6210 in the past. it's a wonderful machine.

i saw the 700m at a dell kiosk at a nearby mall this past weekend, and i must say that the s6210 just "feels" better, at least in terms of build quality, etc.

I also feel that fujitsu's crystal view screen blows away dell's glossy screen on the 700m.

not sure if it makes a difference to you, but the keyboard on the 700m is also smaller than on the fujitsu s6's.

If you want more info on the s6231 or s6210, u might want to check out www.notebookreview.com. there's a fujitsu forum over there, and there are a lot of threads on these units.

Thank you for the replies. I looked at the reviews and user opinions on the two systems already and I still cannot choose. I guess partly because I cannot see and touch the fujitsu. Also both of them seem very good in term of user satisfactions.

where are you located? if you're on the west coast in the states, you can drop by any fry's. they usually have fujitsus on display. I think jandr up in nyc does the same as well.

I am near Sacramento. I called Fry's in Sac and they did not have Lifebook S serie :<

ahhh....i know it's not exactly "close by", but if you're ever in Sacramento, you should drop by portableone. (From what i've heard, they're one of the, if not THE largest fujitsu laptop dealer in the US). I've bought a number of models from them, and they've been wonderful. I'm sure they'd have the S series on display.

I 'touched' both and the Fujitsu feels much better than the Dell by a large margin. The Dell seemed flimsy and somewhat chunky. The Fuji is the better designed machine.

hey cj, couldn't agree with you more!

I have a fry's somewhat nearby and wanted to see the fujitsu too. However, since the place is pretty far ~ 1-2 hours away, I was wondering what models that fry's have in their store notably the s7000. Do the only models they have the same ones on outpost.com?

I would definitely go with the Fujitsu. My cousin recently got the S6231 and its a beautiful laptop. I ordered mine and its supposed to ship by 1-5. First off, the screen is excellent. I don't know why more manufacturers don't use this kind of screen. Second, its not too small and not too big. Performance and style are top notch. I haven't owned many laptops in the past. A couple of Dells and a Winbook over the past 8 years but I know that this will be the best laptop I will probably ever own.
Go with the Fujitsu.

Hey Thank you very much for the affirmation I needed :> Hey Collegekid, I called the Fry's in Sacramento and the only one they had in store here is the C(or N) serie. None of the S serie around here.
