Vicious PC Gaming

Hi Everyone:

I have been lurking through this forum for the last week, trying to get tidbits on notebook companies. So far, I am leaning toward the Uniwill product line.

My question for anyone is have you heard of Vicious Gaming PC located at http://viciouspc.com ?

I went to the reseller's rating website and they got higher marks than IBUYPOWER.com or Cyberpower.com. I am looking to spend under $1500 for a quality notebook.

Any comments on Vicious Gaming PC would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks!

They look great... never heard of them, however the logo looks familiar..
Good prices, however no 17" screens... a deal-buster for me..
I got my D470K (Xplorer x64 9900) from Cyberpower.

If you did any googling, you will see that their systems have been reviewed by some big name sites and magazines and received very favorable ratings, so I think they are for real. I ordered a Shogun that I hope will be here next week. I was going to start a new thread, but I will coopt yours a bit.

I would like to hear from anyone who has received their Shogun. I would like to know when you ordered it and when you received and any issues with Vicious.

Thanks...yes, let's keep this thread alive.

Hey guys i'm gonna jump on your thread too, I did much googling for DTR notebooks and never came up with their name, now I am looking at possibly purchasing from them. It is either gonna be them or Ibuypower, and if they still offer the free shipping and Far Cry after the new year it will definately be Vicious for me. Thanks for posting the site, Gary.

It looks like a much nicer, slimmer case than the Clevo Sager uses. I don't trust Uniwill after my bad A-51m experience with Alienware, it was a crappy case with bad thermals and a bad screen. Hopefully the thiness of the laptop won't lead to instability due to excessive heat buildup. I imagine it wouldn't since the Centrino is a cool processor, but the thicker Clevo's that Sager sells gets relatively hot from what people on the forum say. I'd say try it, but make sure there's no restocking fee and a 30 day return policy in case it sucks...learn from the man who ate $500 to get rid of his POS AW Uniwill laptop!

...crickets chirping. Did anyone else actually order a Shogun (259IA3) from viciouspc? If so, when? Skip the FUD about vicious please. Go start your own thread for that.

I noticed PC-3200 Ram is available on the Shogun, is PC-3200 supported by PM/its motherboard chipset?

reseller ratings are decent, a couple of very poor ratings, but recent ones are better. Not a huge number of ratings though. Not great on service from what is on there.

It will be good to hear from Ling when the system arrives and even after.

ling-ordered mine on the 21st. was supposed to ship either yesterday or today but now they tell me monday. we'll see.

Thanks for the update. I called them to confirm the day after I placed my order (also on the 21st) and they told me the same thing. When they called me back to tell me the price was going up by $90, they said next week also. Oh well. I was hoping that someone would chime in who had ordered a bit ahead of us and maybe received theirs. They seem pretty honest on the shipping, so I may call them and see if I can upgrade the shipping method.

Update: Too late, I got an email last night that my Shogun shipped. It is due in on the 7th via UPS Ground. Padre's got wood (can't find an appropriate smiley for that, ya gotta be a Vampires fan).

P.S. I should also say, that when I ordered my Shogun, in the comment box, I asked that they install windoze in an 18GB partition (rather than all 60GB). I plan to install MEPIS Linux and a FAT32 data partition when it arrives. When the young lady called me to confirm my order, she checked with their tech staff, who said 'no problem'. Hopefully, it will actually arrive that way.

ling, glad to hear yours shipped. mine still hasnt. now they tell me wednesday. actually they tell me something different every time I call them. The latest is that the dvd burner was back ordered the entire time and that it might come in tomorrow. what kind of optical drive did you order because I am pretty sure this is all bs. will definitely never order from them again.

I ordered the standard drive as I already have an NEC 6500A here waiting to jam in there (as well as 2GB RAM, and an extra battery and power supply). Basically, the only options I ordered that could have delayed mine were the 765 processor and the wireless card. UPS says that mine left Baldwin Park, CA on 30 Dec. No further update available. I think they are OK, just a bit overwhelmed and their supply channels may not be too deep.

looks very nice!

Can't wait till you get this laptop and can post a review.

This has matched my criteria the best, although the cooling issue for the GPU still has me baffled.

There are a couple of reviews out already. Captain Al did a good one, but the photos are on his website and the forum admins here seem to be doing some infantile URL munging, so I can't find it again. There is some feedback on the Cyberpower and IBuypower versions. I doubt that I will do much better, but I will provide my thoughts and answer questions. I will tell you that my current notebook is the best one that I have ever owned, and I have not owned anything larger than a sub-notebook for many moons. So, take that into account The only negatives that I have seen so far are that the graphics card is underclocked and not performing to potential. I am pretty confident that with the help of the smart people here, that is fixable. I don't get that rev'd about fps benchmarks, so I won't lose a lot of sleep over this.

Well, my Shogun showed up last night. I unpacked, installed the memory upgrade, fooled around with installing the NEC 6500 DVD writer, got tired, plugged it in and went to bed. Bottom line for me on vicious:

1) Their price was good. As noted on this board, they contacted me to say the price list on the website was wrong and they wanted to raise the price $90. After some griping, I said OK.

2) Communication was very good. I got a confirmation email. They followed up by email and phone. They contacted me a couple of times to let me know it shipped.

3) They shipped when they said they would.

4) The notebook arrived, packed very well.

5) They followed my instructions concerning partitioning the HD.

6) The Windows installation was well done with the latest drivers. I don't know why, but they did not install the InstantOn software. It was an easy install. They did not provide a printed manual which was a little inconvenient. I would have been happy with a photocopy or it was on the HD. It is good to be able to access charging and bios instructions without having to boot up or connect to the Internet.

The only other comment I would make about vicious was that the only distinctive visual thing on the notebook is the Windows background (and maybe a screensaver). There is a place on the lid for a case badge, but they don't have one. It doesn't look quite right and is a bit disappointing.

I would not hesistate to purchase from them again or to recommend them. I am sorry that at least one person on NBF had a problem. I have to say that I was patient and did not pester them. I did not change my order. I don't return stuff unless it breaks, etc. So I may be an easier than average customer.

Thanks for the update Ling.

And the screen is 15.4" Widescreen, right? Cause i remember some other topic where it said it wasn't possible or something.
Also, sorry for asking so many retarded questions, but does the laptop come with an internal wireless card? or is it one of those cards that go into the slot?
And, have you checked if they put in a rubber thing as a heatsink like what Captain Al found?

Vicious is looking really good right now
OK, one more time... The screen is 8" tall, 13 and 1/16" wide with a diagonal measurement of 15 and a little over 3/8". So yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus and the screen is 15.4" 1680x1050 and it is nice. It is like being parked in the front row at the drive-in (only it is a shorter walk for refreshments). Yes, it is an internal mini-pci card. I have not checked the rubber thing. I am not as brave as the Captain. I will probably wait until one of the brave, smart, EE-types do it first and provide pictures. I did run ATITool last night a crank it up a bit. I will probably try the Catalyst/DLH combo today and try it again. Good questions.

If you go with Vicious please you and everyone else that orders, tell them that you are interested in the Bluetooth and TV Tuner options.

Does anyone still have the link for other shogun reviews? I need more convincing since I'm importing and will have a tougher time kicking up a fuss if it doesn't go to plan.
