|Im not questioning what it does - just questioning its usefulness.
the usefullness of 3dmark is to get a benchmark of the video card performance. places like tom's hardware and the like get computers with different specs. In order to get an idea of how two competing video cards perform in unidentical systems (amd vs intel or ht vs no ht) a synthetic benchmark that isolates the video card allows for a better comparison between the cards since the cpu, ram, etc. does not have as much of an effect. thus, 3dmark scores show how well a graphics card could operate if the system allowed it to reach its full potential. that is where real-world benchmarks come into the picture.
