I played with the 9200 today and..

Technically this is not a review but while walking through the mall today I happened upon a Dell kiosk and there was a shiny new 9200 staring me in the face. I got a chance to play with it for half an hour and I have to say, this 9200 is a quantum leap in every way compared to any previous Dell notebook. First appearance is important and the 9200 is damn good looking with a sleek elegant appearance. It looks something like a Powerbook on steroids, not as thin and sleek as the 17" Powerbook but no less good looking and more substantial looking. There was an 8600 sitting next to it which clearly showed the difference, as ugly as the 8600's gray and blue color scheme is the 9200's silver and white looks fantastic. The feeling of the 9200 is rock solid, no cheap plastic look or feel here. The unit on display had the 1400x900 resolution display and it was gorgeous, bright sharp and clear. I picked the 9200 up, turned it over, flipped the lid several times and there wasn't a creak to be heard and the keyboard is a pleasure to use. This is one great 17" notebook PC, I've seen a lot of 17" notebook PC's and none of them compare to the 9200 and that's saying a lot considering I was never a Dell fan. I have a feeling with Dells new notebooks including the 9200 many people who are not Dell fans will be now, I know I am.

I agree with your nice mini review totally.. I am a Gateway M505x user but this Dell 9200 is a great step up.

I just got my 9200 yesterday, and LOVE it.. Man, this thing is awesome.. I downloaded some game demos, as I really don't have any recent PC Games (way too many Xbox, PS2, Cube, GBA games though) I played NFSU2, and it was sweet looking.. Maxed everything out, 1400X900 was running at around 30FPS, with some slow down.. I took the res down a notch, and it was LIQUID smooth.. Very nice.. It also handled FarCry very well..

I've used some really crappy notebook keyboards, and always wonder why they would put such a crappy keyboard on something that costs as much as they usually do.. Well, the 9200 has a SWEET keyboard.. I actually like it better than me desktop keyboard now.. Nice rebound on the keys.. Their quiet enough to type without getting annoying to someone near by..

Sound, wow.. Did you get to listen to anything on it? This thing isn't going to win any awards from Audiophiles, and you're not going to do any multitrack editing on it, but for BUILT-IN laptop speakers, these are the best I've ever heard..

anyway, I'll try to do a better review later on, but this laptop is SWEET...

Just got my i9200 as well. The only game I've tried so far was Vampire Bloodlines, and it runs like absolute crap. I disabled powerplay and set my CPU to max, so I'm thinking there's something up with my drivers or the game itself (and I wouldn't be surprised if it were the game, because it's really poor on graphics settings.) Can't even enable widescreen support for crying out loud, yet HL2 does have it.. oh well!

That's funny, I heard a rumor vampire and hl2 had the same core engine =)

I play Farcry, HL2, and Rome total war, I max out on all those games (Resolution, sound, and speen settings) and it play them perfectly. I like it better than my (now old) desktop.
