Targus Chill Mat

Hey everyone,

I purchased the Targus Chill Mat today at best buy (I was going to get it at Office Max b/c they had it on sell for under $20, but they were out).

I have been using it for the last couple of hours while surfing the net and it really has not proven itself to me.

I am using mobmeter and my temp is the same as before, if not higher. My computer runs an average of around 50 C when plugged in and it has been showing an average of 52 C with the chill pad underneath.

I am going to try out a game on it to see how hot it gets with the chill pad b/c last night after an hour of gaming (Far Cry) the laptop reached 66 C.

Also, I thought the chill pad was suppose to blow cool air onto the laptop, which would be good in my case b/c it will blow colder air into the fans, but i was wrong. After reading, I found out that it actually sucks hot air through and blows it out the back through the vents of the pad. When i place my hand behind the vents of the chillpad I feel nothing at all.

Just thought i would give everyone my experience on it. I believe i will be taking it back and getting something better with the money.

The targus chill mat will not work properly with our notebooks (9860). If you keep using it, it may cause your notebook to overheat. The reason for this is, because it draws air down (pulls air away from fans) instead of blowing air up (forcing more air into fans).

that is what i was afraid of when i found how that it will draw air out and not push it toward the fans. I removed it and the temp dropped by a degree within a minute. It is definately going back

I ran into the same problem. I am using it without the fans for now and will be modifying it to push air up to the fans.

What about taking it apart and reversing the fans?

reversing the polarity wont work..tried it. The way the fans are mounted make it difficult to just flip them. I am going to just purchase 2 new fans and mount them in place of the other 2.
