slacker, love the little figures under your name . I still didnt even order tha laptop. I am waiting for the rush to slow down so I can make sure my order has almost no possibility of getting mixed up. Not that pctorque would mess it up, but they r only human (i hope ) and they might make mistakes with such a large quantity of orders.

congrats on the order, and not meaning to get sidetracked but I live in Massachusetts, and this cable has been randomly shutting off and turning itself on after about a minute or 2, it does this quite often now and its been going on and off for about a week now. Im debating whether i should call charter about it or not.

Again sorry to get sidetracked and if this needs deleting i will understand. Hopefully theyll ship on the 15th so i can have mine a week from then. Right around my birthday! Friday the 22, I'll be 19, congrats me

1 = noexistant
2-6 = terrible, visual noise makes them barely watchable
7-10 = fine
11 = not as bad as 6-10
12 = okay
13-20 = minimal noise.

The thing is the cable to our big screen in the living room is flawless, I can't even watch TechTv in my room because I can just so slightly make out the picture.

1 year standard warranty

I see that a lot of guys feel good about 1 year standard warranty.

Is that wise, considering:
- new motherboard
- new processors
- new 7200 rpm disks
- new ATI 9600

Or am I just a bit of a weasel here?
post #56 of 85
I find it funny that people don't invest in an extended warranty when spending THOUSANDS of dollars on ANY product! Let alone considering the MINIMUM cost of repair on a laptop would be around $100 being something as simple as an AC Adapter. INHO $300 or whatever for a 3/4 year warranty on a $3000-4000 product is a necessity.
post #57 of 85
Its always been my experience that with motherboards, processors and video cards that if the make it past the first couple weeks then they last much longer than that(unless a fan goes bad). As far as the hard drive goes they don't cost too much so if one was to die in the not so distance future I'll just get a new one. So the one year basic warranty works just fine for me.

Thread Starter
Just remember, many components come with their own separate warrenties. My friend had a hard-drive that was 5 years old die on him (Maxtor). He sent it in, and they replaced it for him, can you believe it? 5 YEARS! Granted, if the motherboard died, you're screwed, but how often do motherboards die? Hard drive, CD-rom, processor, all of these have their own warrenties, which may be quite useful...
post #59 of 85
I worked for a major retailer repairing electronics for multiple years and I have seen every type of problem with every type of product of every brand at every point in a products life cycle imaginable. I think assuming that if a product lasts more than a few weeks is a ludacris statement regarding future reliability. Most people who say such statments are talking about personal products when myself am speaking from experience with a couple thousand notebooks. If you look at this past year's product service/relability rates you'll see consumers with problems with their products at around a 20% rate in the first year; from day 1 all the way up to day 365 not just in the first few weeks. Not to mention products that come DOA. Also, even if you're getting a great deal on a laptop hard drive from pricewatch or wherever there's no way you're going to be able to get a 60GB 7200rpm mobile hd for like $50. You're most likely looking at $200+ and that is enough for a warranty to keep your ENTIRE notebook insured. My opinion about extended warranties is almost the opposite when talking about desktops but we're talking about laptops people....
post #60 of 85
Components don't come with individual company warranties when purchased through a reseller. They are only warrantied through that company. Also, in the last year I've seen over 25 mobo failures from brand new $3000 Alienwares to 10 year old packard bells. Any problem can occur at any time.
