i just hope the real longhorn is not going to be disappointing or i am not going to upgrade my os to longhorn for starters and i might go overboard and join the darkside haha ie the mac users!! lol. i am seriously thinking with the requirements to run the longhorn os i would rather take that hardware and run xp on it instead of longhorn and have a fasssst machine. i am really keeping my fingers crossed hoping that microsoft does not release bloatware in the form of longhorn. i really am hoping that there actually turn out to be some very good advantages to migrating to longhorn whether it be in terms of performance, security and stability because this transformation pack looks like at least the UI will be very interesting.

the price is the deciding factor

Yeah, it will be a sad day if Longhorn is introduced and... it's crap and everyone decides to go to a Mac OS. So much for Intel, AMD, and every other company that depends on Windows.

While I hope that won't be the case, I certainly don't expect it to be that way.

Yeah I dont expect it to be that way. Seriously though i think old Billy should try this idea of mine. You know how NASA has stringent quality control right? Like they write 15 lines of code (speculating the number here) a day but they are bug free so in the end their number of bugs in the system just after getting done writing the whole software is very very small. Something like 1 bug per 100,000 lines of code or even less I think. So old Billy should recruit a whole bunch of hacker type programmers and make them write a tight and very well developed os kernel for windows...mind you just the kernel. Then another tight knit cell will then work on the GUI part of the OS based on the compact kernel...and all other APIs for example DirectX and all other software...based on that kernel...so stringent quality control exists. Then he can sell the kernel for say 75 dollars and then every addon like for example the standard bunch of software that comes with xp, that is the GUI and themes, and notepad etc etc will be 25-30 bux on top of that...and if someone wants to make a pure gaming system, then they can opt to have just the kernel and the gaming software...and so on. First addon will be 25-30 bux and the next ones will be 10 bux a pop. I think he will rake in the dough that way. A completely modular OS...well not completely. That way security will be tight, XP wont be a resource hog...and the proverbial kitchen sink wont be needed. This would be a good option for us power users dont you think?
i would say so. but it might cost more in the long run - once we get all the components we need.
welll i guess the pricing can be thought thru. i mean it could be after buying the kernel and the 1st addon pack subsequent addons would be 10 dollars or less and i think that would not be a bad idea at all because Mac OS X is retailing for 125 dollars. My way at least you get the kernel and 2 addons packs and you still end up at what....110 dollars? Not bad...because addons just dont include one software program...its a package...kinda like office...hehe

if you are looking to freshen up your desktop in a way that does not mess with disabling WFP and such, try the royale theme, the official MS theme for windows MCE. You can download it from MS, I think, or just google for it. You can install it yourself on Home or Pro by copying a couple of files. I think it is much better than the blue theme which has a far too saturated blue for a user interface.
hmm any screenshots on what the ryoale theme looks like?
ahh... how do you take screenshots? if you google it, you will get a bunch of matches. try it
post #77 of 84
Uh PrintScreen button? Paste in program of your choice...

yep that is the royale theme. just google for it and you will either find links to the MS download site or people have made executables that will install it for you. One thing it messes up is the color coding in Office 2003 -- meaning you won't get the blue menus that you get with the luna theme. You can work around this by renaming the royale.msstyles in windows\resources\themes to luna.msstyles and double clicking it and you will also get the blue menus in office 2003 (if you are using office 2003 that is).
