3790 with Windows XP. Any ideas why my 3790 would be shutting down unexpectedly???? temps 38-40 degrees. It makes a squeaking noise and down it goes. It seems to happen with AC power or battery. The fan works. Last night I was sitting there and went to put the computer on my lap and it shut down. Ideas???

Do you have a specfic virus program suggestion??? I have Norton and Ad aware and spybot. I have run them all repeatedly.

heh thats the temp of your HDD thats being monitered. As far as I know (correct me if im wrong) mobile meter I have only displays the HDD temp.

That being said I use an infrared thermal sensor. Normaly that notebook should run warmer than that. I bet its a heat issue.

Hmmm......interesting. You are right about the HDD temps. I think I am resigned to the fact that I may have send it to Sager for a workup.

i am having the same problems with my sager 3790 on windows xp, it just shuts down randomly.
did you resolve this problem? or anyone have any more ideas on why my laptop does this? thanks.

I have a Sager 8500, (PIII-1gb, 15", DVD), running Win XP Pro, that has started

to have a problem with turning itself off, also.

The laptop will abruptly shutdown for no apparent reason. The shutdown does

not generate an event in the event log. There doesn't seem to be any program or

service that is influencing the problem. Also, when I power the laptop back up, Xp

boots as if there was no 'crash'.

I have watched carefully what I am doing when the system stops & there is no

consistent thing I am doing when it stops. Sometimes it will run for days w/o

dying & then it will die. Then when the system is being booted back up, it will die

as soon as the OS is loaded.

I've thought about the power-saving/hibernation functions, but can't seem to

find anything connected with that causing the problem.

It happens whether I am on the battery or on AC power.

Anybody else seen this problem?

TIA,

Geo

PS

I've been scoping the forum for a solution & have had my KB 'popped' loose - this is after watching amovie for about an hour & then having a shutdown, followed by a shutdown as soon as it booted. The third shutdown within 5-10 minutes prompted me to come to the forum looking for help. That was about 80-90 minutes ago & I've been running with the KB loose since then with no problems..... -- maybe it's heat related?????

Are you running Service Pack 2?

The squeaky noise has be wondering if your hard drive is damaged...

I would make sure you have all your Win Updates installed...

Then run TrendMicro's House Call (Google: housecall) in safe mode.
