Any Latitude D505 owners here?

Just curious to see if anyone here has a D505. I'm looking at picking one up so I don't have to lug my i9100 around campus all day. I'd like to get a stripped down model, as it'd be used almost exclusively for school and travel. My 9100 is awesome, but I really need a machine that I can take with me for the weekend and charge in the car if need be. I don't care about having anything better than 1024x768 resolution, I don't need a CD-burner, I want something that isn't as heavy as my 10lb monster notebook.

I'm looking at the following config:

Latitude D505 Intel® Celeron® M Processor 340 (1.50GHz) w/ 14.1 XGA Display D5C54X [221-6660] 1

Purchase Intent Purchase is not intended for resale. NOT4SEL [462-4506] 138
TOTAL: $859.00

Not bad, IMO. It's small, light, and I think a decent deal.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, if anyone has pics of this system that'd be great. Thanks!

My wife has a D505 that she uses from time to time, she's very happy with it.
Your configuration looks very sensible; however, I would step up to the 725 Dothan CPU, and downgrade your WiFi to the Intel 2100 to still keep within budget (if you've set yourself one).
I'll try to post pix with the D505 next to my M60 for comparision purposes after we return from holidays.
Keep us posted.

Actually, those two wifi cards are the same price. Also, the step to the Dothan is too much money. I'm really looking for a barebone laptop.

I'd used the d505 at school and helped to setup about 50 of them for both teachers and two labs for students. They're nice laptops. They use the same casing for the 14" and the 15" models so you'll have a bit of a gap around the 14". I just priced a d505 through SMB. Came to $899 with a PM 725, 512mb ram, 30gb hd, 14" XGA screen(I think they're advertising like $230 off any d505). I think the 1.6ghz PM for an extra $50 would be worth it if you don't mind ordering though small business.

I'd also say step up to the Dothan 725

I am happy with my D505

I got my D505 in Sep. Upgrade the memory to 1G and HD to Hitachi 7K60. Very happy with this configuration.

Your configuration looks fine. But you might want to consider purchasing the Dell Combination Power Adapter. Just $69 and you can charge your laptop in the car and on the airplane.

While it will be significantly smaller and lighter than your i9100, I think the D505 is slightly on the larger side. Its chassis is slightly bigger than the D500/D600 series because it needs to accomodate the 15" screen option.

I think you could get an Inspiron 600m which is slightly smaller for not much more than that price. And even the 700m dips below $1000 from time to time with a good coupon.

That said, the D505 is not a bad choice at all.
