Maybe that thing with the video BIOS? It seems that anything that uses graphics causes the overheat.

Ataxus,
Not sure if you tried this yet, but I will throw my two cents in here too. Do you notice a change in fan speed as the mobmeter temp climbs past 50C My fan RPM increases slightly at 50C. Can you try and increase fans to max Fn+F10. Do you hear a definate increase and what does it do to the temp. At idle, my system runs around 48-51C, if I max out the fans, I can get down to 38-40C. I am running a 3.0Ghz Prescott and have 1Gb of ram with 60Gb 7200RPM HD. During gaming with FarCry, I always run at max fan speed and I get as high as 50-55C. If I keep fans at default, I have not heard fans go to max automatically yet. My system is about as old as G-Ohmaha's current system. I am running latest system bios and video bios version with latest Sager video drivers. I do not have artifacting problems. I did notice that the new video bios decreases the video timings just a bit from earlier versions.
If this does not help you in troubleshooting, do yourself a favor and RMA it to have it repaired. Heat is the ultimate enemy of electronic components.

What screws to loosen.

alright i found the post. Graphics Artifacts with 8790 : Pink Colored Crap Here are also the descriptive photos of how to remove the keypad and what screws to loosen.

Ataxus you might want to try this, from what I hear it drops temps and solves artifacting issues.

Hope this helps you.

Heat in an 8790

The other question is environmental - where are you using the laptop? If your sitting it on a blanket (for example) you will cook it as no air can flow.

I use mine with Wow with no problems. Yes, it gets hot, especially the left palm rest. The best trick though was to raise the laptop up - I use a couple of small wood blocks to lift the front 1cm and the rear 2cm. This lets alot more air flow under the laptop and stops heat trapping between the laptop and the surface its sitting on.

My next plan is to "build" a custom laptop desk with fans built into it to try and cool this thing down. Thoughts are: USB hub driving 2 x silent fans + external HDD + M-audio transit sound device.

Good luck!
