ok, so i just got my 3790 and i want to update the video drivers cuz my games are running like crap.

is there anything wrong with using the official catalyst drivers from ati.com?

how can i trust omega or dna, or the mod app from driverheaven? i guess what i want to know is, can i use the official catalyst drivers? i'm not too keen on using modified video drivers..

sorry, this is probably a repost or something :X

The Offical Cataylst drivers are great, Omegas are better (apparently).

If you don't trust the Omega man, just use the cats instead.

Here is a guide to instaliing them:

Here is how to do it:

1) You need the Microsoft.net version 2 Beta: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

2) Now download the mobility modder (bottom of the screen): http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

3) Next download Catalyst 4.12 with Control Panel here: http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...x=9&submit.y=8

Ok after all that downloading all you need to do is install them in that order - Select your GPU (MR9700 most probably?) from the list when you open the Mobile Modder, and then simply point the program to the location that you downloaded the Catalysts to.

Voila! Instant improvements to your 3DMark scores and a more flexible GPU editor.

thanks for the help i installed the official drivers using the dh mod tool, and everything works.

another question, to show how much of a laptop n00b i am: is it possible to get good video performance just using the battery? cuz i changed the power settings in the bios from full battery to full performance, and there was a huuuge performance change for the better. i'm wondering if i should be getting the same performance on full battery also....

What//how did you tinker in the BIOS to edit those power settings?
God I am a BIOS n00b.

in bios:

go to Power, then CPU SpeedStep Controls. u can then select either "Maximum Performance Mode" or "Maximum Battery Mode."

so yeah. can anyone answer my question? is it possible to get full video performance on "Maximum Battery Mode"?

i don't know how to fix it either. i would just do an uninstallation by following the driverclean readme.txt instructions, then install the dh-modded catalysts over again.

i haven't tried the omega drivers, so i can't comment on them.

still waiting for an answer to my question
is it possible to get full video performance on "Maximum Battery Mode"? any answer! even an "i don't know" would be an excellent start

thanks

Max preformance mean offers this top notch, full power. but! max battery means it downclocks GPU and CPU usually by half so switch it rather u want more time, or more preformance, and P.S. LCD Brightness depends alot on battery life

one update to much?

ace-t,

My last update was a long time ago, so I thought this would not hurt.

Alas, it did!

Soldiers, Heroes of World War II refuses to play after upgrading to 4.12.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Soldiers but that did not help.

Any ideas?

So are Omega's worth getting? I've heard in late that they are a bit botchy....

I like the official catalysts - i'm going to update to the 5.7s tonight after work. I recommend going to www.tweakguides.com - that guy will tell you everything you could possibly need to know about getting your system running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. he has a whole ati tweak guide in which he holds your hand through the whole clean install process. before i went there i couldn't get battlefield 2 to run at all on my computer - but after going through his windows xp tweak guide, following his directions for updating motherboard and bios drivers, and following instructions on the ati catalyst tweak guide, the game is running like a dream. i highly recommend it...

i was just about to ask if anybody has tried these. i updated to cat. 5.7 last night, and i had some issues playing battlefield 2. i'm trying to decide whether just to rollback to cat. 5.6 - which worked perfectly - or try out the omega 5.7 or the dhzeropoint's. Why do you recommend the zeropoint?
