I think I will just stick to the MS 4.0 for my 7700. Just realised in the American AW site the Saucer Silver is actually in Alienware color, in the UK site they provide the wrong picture.

On a shot-in-the-dark tip from a co-worker, carried the laptop out of the bedroom (primary location) to the living room, dragging the MX100 along.

Great Joy!

Plugged everything in, heard the "detected" beep, had a 100% functional mouse in seconds. Tried it out on Halo2 (PC) demo, CallOfDuty, and Doom3 demo: no sweat whatever. Comfort factor: 5 out of five.

Co-worker's idea was: since we have so many wireless 2.4MHz devices going in the bedroom, their transmission/reception "cones" may be cancelling each other out.

To test that, carted the whole shebang back to the bedroom...plugged in = nothing, same as before. Back to the living room: bingo, works! Spare bedroom: bingo! Kitchen: bingo! And so on, throughout the house EXCEPT the master bedroom.

Summery: I'm not certain that I can scientifically prove that multiple 2.4 devices interfere with each other, but that seems the case here.
My 2.4Ghz cordless phone goes nuts when it's near my MS Bluetooth mouse but does not have a problem with my Logitech Bluetooth mouse... weird, huh?
We can not use our microwave while on the phone either... 2.4Ghz is just too crowded

My master bedroom is also electronically freaky with wireless devices... maybe me and my wife are causing too much static electricity

I use the mx700 for my desktop. It's not as good as I would have wanted, but it was a major improvement because it was my first optical mouse. I have to pick it up and move it around a lot because sometimes the pointer jumps all over the place. For my laptop, I needed something small and portable, and since the 700m doesn't have bluetooth, that was out. I eventually chose the benq m310 because the usb receiver stores in the mouse. It's a great little mouse and I use it a lot more than I thought I would. It's definitely not for gaming because the resolution's not as high as the MX1000 and MX510, but since I don't really play games anyway, it's a great mouse for everything else.

Are you sure the pointer jumping isn't your palm hitting your tochpad ? =P FN + F12 for t3h 1337 win man.

It would be hard for my palm to hit my touchpad if I'm using my 700mx with a desktop.
