Acer's model numbering scheme...

Hey all--

Recently I have taken interest in Acer's TravelMate series of notebooks. I have, however, been somewhat frustrated at how they devise their model numbers. I know that W = widescreen and all of that, but there seems to be inconsistencies between their resellers as to what is included in a paritcular model...especially in relation to whether the model has integrated graphics or a dedicated ATI 9700.

Example: TM4002WLMi-XPP, Acer's manufacturer's # LX.T5306.040

According to Acer's Canadian website, this notebook has integrated graphics: http://www.acer.ca/acerpanam/page4.d...crc=2402741098

However, looking at one of their authorized resellers (Insight) gives the impression that the very same model (same manufacturer's # LX.T5306.040) has an ATI 9700: http://www.insight.ca/apps/productpr...t_id=ACE909793

I have contacted the reseller for clarification, but I am finding that just about every reseller has different information than Acer's website. Very frustrating! Has anyone else experienced this?

You should always go with the information from Acer's web site for your specific region in regards to exact specifications. Resellers can easily have incorrect specs listed for a given model.

Both TM4502LMI and TM4002WLMI has Intel Extreme Graphics. Best thing is to compare manufacturer's number with Acer's site. Model numbers are not unique across regions and some models have different specs in different regions.

I think manufacturer's number seemed to be unique in across all regions.

The 9700 is integrated graphics. The difference is dedicated or shared memory for the GPU. Obviously any 9700 will have dedicated RAM. I don't know about that model, but just some clarification on dedicated and shared. It is referring to the RAM, not the GPU itself.
