What do I say to people that think AW is absolute crap when they've never owned an AW. When they say they are overpriced, and blah blah. Because they're not overpriced, they are the same price as building a system, but they just wont listen. I need people like DB to help me put them in their place...please give me things to defend our company!@

dont listen to them, its just that easy. You dont need DB to start a flame war. Think of it this way, they are just jealous, i kno i am but then again im not a AW hater...just let them complain

They are the same sort of people who go on and on about how Ferrari's suck, or Porsche's suck, or (insert expensive, much coveted object here) sucks. It's just jealousy, plain and simple.

HAHAHA ^^^..that is damn funny. But I think i made my case with them...I just wish people would consider AW as an option rather than just think they suck because they heard something from somebody on the net who has never even seen an AW computer.

EDIT: This is what i wound up using..I configured a PC on newegg.com with the same specs as my AW, it came out to 2700 while my AW was 3300. But, on newegg, I didnt add the power supply, the fans, the upgraded heatsink/fan for the CPU that AW uses, or a case. And all the stuff on newegg.com only comes with a factory 90 day warranty, and like the FX-55, if you wanted the 1 year, you had to pay 119 dollars extra for it. By the time you add all that in, a homebuilt is the same amount of money, and you still dont get the great customer service...I mean Juan is helping me out through PM's because i have bronchitis and cant call..I mean, how great is that!?

...building is cheaper. dont debate that with me because i will prove it 10 times over.
Places like *company name removed* are bs saying they save you thousands over AW. Configed two exact same systems and AWs was $30 more.
well thats a company that builds, im saying that building one yourself is much cheaper. and i can proove it if you really want me to.
Heh, was I addressing building? Nope. Never said a word about building, though it rocks.
he was talking about building. this thread is about building.

Astu was probably responding to the OP's comment

I honestly dont see how an Alienware with a P4 at 3.6 GHz with 1 GB DDR Ram and a 128 MB AGP graphic card can be any better than a Dell with a P4 at 3.6 GHz with 1 GB DDR Ram and a 128 MB AGP graphic card. And if Dell's cost $500 cheaper, which it may or may not be, I am going to go for the less expensive system.

Ever heard of someone not liking something because they don't like it? Not everything is envy or jealousy, some people just don't like certain things.

Now with that aside, it doesn't matter what other people think about what you have. Don't try to let things bother you and you will win in the end. Ignoring people tends to be a good way to get them to leave you alone. If you don't care what they think then they will leave you alone.

Dell uses proprietary components, which can be real bitches to upgrade. that's why i will never buy another dell. For example, the motherboards use non-standard form factors and heatsink sizes and do not have some standard connectors that other motherboards do have. at least, that was the case with my dimension 8200.

EDIT: For comparison purposes, look on AW's site and it will give you the exact brand and model of the components they use unless they are Alienware-branded. i.e. motherboards, PSUs, et al are named specifically.

Man, if someone could build their own Dell, they'd be saving mucho mulah.
you can build low end systems...
Astu how much did your desktop rig cost you?
about 2200, i got an employee discount on the graphics card and the motherboard (monarchcomputer.com), otherwise it would be about 2350. give or take 50 bucks, and thats with windows xp pro OS.

I dont think its the affordability issue. No one seems to bash Voodoo or Falcon, becuase they seem to really take care of customers who want to spend big money on a computer. Thats where Alienware is lacking. If you buy an ALX, or a $5000 dollar Area 51, you'd like to be treated like gold. Like..."thanks for choosing alienware and not Dell, Gateway, or a huge corporation...we're going to show you why you've made the better choice."

This is NO flame agaisnt alienware, its just the exact thing they are lacking. Trust, and making the customer feel special for choosing them, not like another order #.
