I have my Alienware-51 Desktop for well over two year, so my opinion of Alienware should be credible. Two years ago I was choosing between Dell, Voodoopc and Alienware. At the end I came down to Alienware, because the cool case and the excitement of owning an Alienware were very tempting. I ordered one on the month of october in 2002. It came quicker than I expected, right before halloween. The box was very appealing, because of the alienware logo. I opened the box and BAM my desktop was waiting for me to be explored. So I hooked up everything and plug in everything. Load and behold everything loaded. But one problem, I found out that the DVD drive wasn't working, because it didn't light up and the tray didnt slide out. As someone who has some knowledge of computers, I opened the case. Everything in there looks fine, except that the power cord wasn't plugged into the DVD drive. I don't understand why is that, because I thought they tested everything. Even in the binder they said DVD-ROM drive:Checked. I mean a customer shouldn't have to open their computer on the first day recieving their computer. I even call them and ask them why wasn't the power plugged in. The Rep responded with: "Sorry there could've been a mistake by one of our enginner". I don't know about you, I paid $2459 and they screwed up on such a fundamental thing. Anohter problem I encountered was that they didn't install many drivers. I had no audio and my ethernet card didn't work. I end up doing all that on my own. I didn't really get a chance to use the computer till the following day.
About 5-6 months later the power supply blew on me. It was a Enermax 460W, I don't know who to blame whether it was AW or Enermax. But that just gave me another aspect of AW.
I have to say their technical support is just horrible. 7/10 Rep doesn't speak english clearly, in fact they have no idea what they are doing. I know I said i recieve the computer for two years already, but even today their techincal support is very questionable.
So if you ask me whether or not I would buy an Alienware again, I would say no. They technical support is not worth it, and I question how much time they spend to test these machines. In the meantime I'm looking else where for anohter vendor for my laptop.
As I said earlier, this thread wasn't made to bash AW, but just an opinion of my experience with Alienware.
