Unless they're part of the problem you can take out the battery, optical drive (if modular), and the hard drive (with the hard drive caddy if there is one).

Keep your Reinstallation Discs handy you might need to do a complete reinstall, which will only take about 3 or 4 hours of your time. Unless Dell does it for you what they did for me and that was to send a fully refurbished I-8600c one with a 80GB hard drive, DVD+R/RW~CD-R/RW with a 2.0GHz Pentium M Processor and 755 Dothan chipset, Toshiba 1920 x 1200 WUGA screen, Microsoft Office 2003 and keys for permanent ownership all because I sent my LEMON I -8500 in for a 3rd time repair. Best of luck there pardner maybe Dell will want you to start off the new year with a bang, a I-9200 would be a nice refurbished replacement same hard drive would fit the i-9200.

What I sent them was the I8500 lemon 40 GB HD 512MB RAM, but kept the CD-R/RW~DVD Drive, When it arrived I seen there would be no use for me to have a DVD+R/RW so I sold it to another Notebook forum member.
