Can anyone tell me how to go about swapping a good DVD-ROM player with a dead one. I bought the new one because I thought this would be easy

no, with that case you pretty much need to shell the laptop apart - basically need to remove the keyboard and some screws there, and screws from the bottom of the laptop to lisft the top lid off to get to the DVD - not a real DIY project
