Why the title said "XPS Gen 2"? Dell driver's greeting screens mention both XPS Gen 2 and 9300 so I supose it will be different things.

OK, maybe it'll be a different color and come with a backpack

The Pentium M is no suprise, we've been posting ourselves numb with speculation about the next CPU, but I always cringe when I see Pentium Centrino Mobile technology in the title. As if my current XPS won't have the functionality to connect, process, or be mobile without that particular processor! Someone help me with understanding the need for Centrino Mobile processing!

The marketing guys at Intel love that little money spinner main board cpu & wireless all in one package with a fancy sticker = big sales bonus

That's the answer I figured on. Definitely sounds like a spin product to me!

What with the memory? In first section it says "DDR 533MHz" - in the third one - "DDR2 400MHz".

the benefit of centrino tech is that you can have a fast cpu and the nvidia 6800go 256mb vid card in a chassis the size of the i9300. the intel p4 version comes in the size of the sager 9860. i'll take 1" thick and 8.5 pounds to 2 inches and 12 pounds anyday of the week. i know the 9860 has dual hard drives and optical drives and 4 ram slots as options that do make it bigger than it otherwise would be, but no way you can get a 105+ watt cpu with a 30+ watt video card in the size of a i9300. this notebook should also be quieter. the new dothans will get you almost the same performance, especially in games, but consume about 80 watts less. i think that's pretty amazing and this notebook should rock!!!

yeah, is this a real ad or a mock-up?

No gigabit ethernet? That ain't an XPS.
well this is supposed to be the 9300 so maybe that's why there i no gigabit ethernet. also it's a german model so that might have something to do with it too. also, it could be a fake who know but it seems legit to me. i figure this thing will debut on the 17th with all th other sonomas and should have ddr2-533
post #15 of 269
hmm not impressive IMHO. well then again the current hardware for laptops has not increased in performance by much....unlike desktops...but i believe the intel sonoma platform would be something to watch out for.
Not impressed either, this can't be the next XPS. I really think they'll do better with the actual XPS. This to me just seems like the 9100 successor.

Processor: Intel Mobile Technologyl? WTF?

Technologyl?

Sorry guys, i think that's fake...

Heh.

1) "Centrino" means Pentium M CPU combined with an Intel brand wireless NIC. Nothing more. Obviously, you can use any other wireless card with a Pentium M and you'll be fine, it just won't be called "Centrino." There's no performance, compatability or support improvement associated with Centrino, unless you like Intel better than Netgear, Linksys, et al.

2) The 9300 listed above does use the new Sonoma platform.

3) I doubt it's the XPS Gen 2, considering the name and picture they show.

4) Legit or not? Dunno, but seems believable to me - it's basically an i9200 with the Sonoma chipset and the video card thus allowed.

I'd like to know what that GeForce 6800 Go is clocked at. If it's 400mhz, it's gonna be right up there with the x800. Too bad it's based on the i9200 chassis, I hate the way it doesn't have a full keyboard. If I'm going to have a 17-in screen, it's gotta have a full keypad, otherwise I'm going with a 15 in. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was legit, it makes perfect sense-- just don't expect it for at least a month or two.

X800 > 6800 Go
