6800 Ultra Go

The Geforce 6800 Ultra Go WILL have 16 pipes, trust me.

I was playing Far Cry on it earlier and it was a blast. I have a Geforce 6600GT OC @ 575/575 with an Athlon 64 3500+ in my home system and i played it on the iXPS Gen 2 at the same detail (Maximum details, 'ultra' level water). The iXPS Gen 2 totally destroyed my home system in terms of speed - it manhandled the game!!

Using the Nvidia 'Coolbits' registry entry, i went to the 'frequency settings' page on the Nvidia control panel. I selected manual settings and it found 500/600 (500 core/1.2G memory) as the optimal overclocked value. That probably means the core speed is set to around 425/500 as default (I am guessing)

I would also be VERY surprised if it is not GDDR3 memory on the card, GDDR3 runs cooler and uses less power than DDR1 and i don't think GDDR1/2 can reach those speeds anyway.

What you have read about the lights on the sides/cover of the iXPS Gen 2 is true - it can be controlled via a control panel on the windows desktop and is pretty impressive (I think so anyway!), and would look great at a lanparty.

It will also come with three free A4 picture covers that can be used on the top lid of the laptop, there is a CSI game one (Dell have a deal with the CSI makers, that's why you see them use a lot of Dell stuff), but i forget the rest.

The only downside is finding the money for it! :-)

I cannot believe it. Then they must use a normal NV40-Core. This core is not made for laptops - the power consumption would be enormous. The totally 66,1 Watt would not be enough I think...
Moreover then the 12000pts 3dmark2003 would be not fast enough for a 16-pipe system with such high clocks....
This would mean that a laptop card is faster than the normal desktop Ultra (clocked at 400MHz) ...
No - the 6800-U is a 12pipe card...

I'm curious as to how the price of this will compare to the 9300. Might have to return my M70 to get it

Which would mean that it will not be released soon OR that it will cost an insane amount of cash to buy.

Hey guys,

I'm kind of new to laptops, but for the last few months I've been really interested in an XPS, but you guys have convinced me to wait. Can someone tell me the difference between a Pentium 4 HT and a Pentium M? I'm confused about the difference either processor would make in gaming?
ekhem....PRICE - anyone knows?
looks like voodoopc is already offering the go6800 ultra in their m790 laptop (sager 9860 guts)... base price is about $3800.
but voodoo was always more expensive than Dell..
true, but i thought i'd post it for the few "gotta have it now" folks

Check out www.anandtech.com and look for their review of the P-M. It will explain everything that you need to know.

Anyone know how these new gen2 xps would compare to the existing alienware 7700 laptops?

I found some release dates on another forum not sure if people here seen them yet.

Inspiron Range

XPS Gen2 - release date 15/3/2005
1200/2200 - release date 6/3/2005
9300 - release date 24/2/2005
6000 - release date 19/1/2005

Latitude Range
110L - release date 7/3/2005
D410 - release date 14/2/2005
D610 - release date 14/2/2005
D810 - release date 3/2/2005

It depends on what you will be doing. There will be tradeoffs in both areas. If you are wanting game, the XPS will most likely be better. More memory intensive applications will do better on the 7700.

The AW and Sager lappies are P4-based, which means they're much heavier, run much hotter, have much worse battery life, and should have about the same performance as the XPS2 (assuming you get one with the same video card).

Hrm.... What is this 1200/2200 ?? listed on 6/3/2005 (hoping for a true replacement to the 8600, WITH a dock, and a video card)..

But if the Inspiron 6000 can be upgraded to the 256 meg Geforce 6800 then I'll just go with that.. (man, this is painful) ... Thoughts?

I doubt the 6000 will run the 6800. I would be surprised if (assuming there is a different 8600 replacement) would run the 6800 as well. It will probably run 6600 if it has a higher end video card.

I was hoping for a 6800 Go in a 15.4in but I've given up on that. I don't think you'll see more than the 6600 in 15.4in laptops for at least a little while. I'm gonna suck up the extra 1.23 inches the XPS 2 adds to the width (compared to the i8600) and get that 6800 Ultra Go. From what Finternet says, the XPS 2 will show my desktop here who's boss, which is really cool considering 6 months ago nothing in the laptop market could come close to the 128mb 6800 in this desktop.

Since it's been established that the XPS 2 will appear on the 15th of March, can I expect it to ship in a week if I ordered the day it comes out? Or is it going to be on backorder for a little while?

I can't see any reason to go with Alienware. The XPS 2 will perform better in almost all categories. The alienware's desktop CPU will encode music and videos faster, but it weighs a ton of bricks and it doesn't have battery life at all. The XPS 2 is better since it's got good battery life (presumably), it's 8.6lbs (vs the 7700's 12 lbs), and it's a lot slimmer than the Alienware 7700. I would never buy an alienware anyways, since I read at least one horror story per week nowadays. Too much money for crappy service.
