XPS Gen 2 - Page 2

notebookreview is saying that there'll be another blowout dell sale on thursday, the last time there was a blowout sale they introduced the 9200 a few weeks afterward - perhaps this is in antipcation to the i9300 and i6000?

True, but MRX800 < 6800 - as for the same class of chips, it's rather religious question. GeForce FX series was too slow on shaders 2.0 but 6x00 looks nice. If nVidia will not improve things, it will go alone with 3Dfx and Aureal, I'm sure they understand it. The better nVidia's chip, the better ATI's chip will be to compete.
Have you guys saw Far Cry on GF6800 with HDRrendering tern on? Shaders 3.0 is nice thing but rare...

I WILL BET $$$ THAT THIS IS NOT THE NEW XPS GEN2. THEY WANT TO SPLIT THE XPS/9100 LINES. THE XPSGEN2 WILL HAVE A P4 NOT A MOBILE CPU.

Credit DELL with this info! (engineering dept)

I tell you, no!

I mean the MRX800 and the GeForce 6800 Go, and the X800 is still better. shader 3.0? no need

ATI got his own technology, that's better than this crap now...

Shader 3.0 is in the future, and if the first shader 3.0 games are released, u've to buy a new graphiccard

I won't have an opinion on the 6800 Go until I see benches with higher clocked version (not the 250MHz version overclocked)

It's no surprise that a 8-Pipe MR9800 clocked around 400-450MHz, is faster than a 12-pipe 6800 Go clocked at 250MHz.

Theoretically, a 12-pipe 250MHz GPU would be as about as effective as a 8-pipe 375MHz GPU.

12 pipes is ~ 50% more efficient than 8 pipes

250 * 50% = 125

250 + 125 = 375

Can't you just plug in a x800 instead of a 6800 go since it's pci express.
That would assume Dell offers the two different adapters in identical form factors.

If they don't offer adapters in identical form factors for future cards what's the point of having pci-express.

I saw this a few days ago, and i thought it was BS then, and still BS now. Give me something more authoritative than a pic that any 10 year old can make.

Well, maybe any Swedish 10-year old.

It's interesting to see you guys in denial. What's the big deal? Dell is basically giving you the same performance of the current XPS, but it'll run much cooler, have much better battery life, and the girls will really dig your 17-incher.

Ah. I can see that your support for your argument is much stronger than mine. Just messing around. It's just opinions-- my desktop geforce 6800 nu is the best video card I've ever bought and has the best dollar to frame-per-second ratio of any video card (except the x800 XL....but oh wait, that's not out yet, and who knows if it ever will be). That said, I prefer to use pixel shader 3.0 as well as High Dynamic Range lighting in Far Cry, neither of which ATI's cards can currently do. Performance wise, a 400mhz geforce 6800 go is going to be the same as the x800. I think you will find that over a wide span of games, neither card is going to better so it comes down to small features like PureVideo, Shader 3.0, HDR, and driver GUI preferences (maybe even battery life?)

I don't think all are in denial here. But from your post above, you just lost a sale on a next gen XPS by saying we'd be getting the SAME performance out of the new model!

Run cooler? That's fine, but most of the threads in this forum range from "I'm switching out my Prescott for a Northwood" to "Oh god, my temps are running high! What should I do?" I haven't seen a thread that started with "My XPS crapped out 'cuz of heat! HELP!"

Better battery life? On a 10 pounder? That's great, but If you're planning on working 5 hours straight on this thing, I'm not sure battery power is essential, ESPECIALLY if you're a gamer.

17" monitor? Cool, but I'm still reeling from what to do with the 15.4" I've got (and my wife loves it ). Dell wants to make a lappy with a 17" monitor? Cool. I just hope that's not the selling point.

As far as Hardcore's comment. I couldn't disagree more. I'm glad you brought that IMG to us, and I have no idea if it's BS or not. i don't care. We'll all know soon enough.

I discuss this sh*t in school everyday ^^

If you compare the best nVidia (for desktop) with the best ATI (also ), you'll see, ATI > nVidia.

http://www.pc-experience.de/wbb2/thr...threadid=12689

Scroll a bit down and watch the bandwidth

GeForce 6800 Ultra 6,4 Pixel Fillrate (GP/sec) | 35,20 Bandwidth (GB/sec)
Radeon X800 XT PE 8,3 Pixel Fillrate (GP/sec) | 35,80 Bandwidth (GB/sec)

ATI > nVidia, forget it, i love ATI, not nVidia :P

Oh, b4 i forget, if you play with nVidia games with activated FSAA 6x / AF 16x, you lose a lot of FPS and with the ATI? no problem :P

and here

http://www.zdnet.de/enterprise/clien...28205-3,00.htm

scroll down 4 benchies

The X850 XT PE ~ 6800 GT SLI!!! (u know, 2 cards )

i just want u 2 believe, that ATI > nVidia. I hope now you're a believer :P

By the way, if you watch at the benchmarks X800 mobility vs GeForce 6800 Go

watch this -> http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2268&p=12

So, now hf :P

It's not BS, I've pre-ordered one through my employer just the other day for delivery in late February. (make that early March...) That's what the fact sheets look like for Dells HomePC-offers through employers in Sweden btw.

Cool. Can I ask how much it cost you, and how much would a similarly spec'd 9200 (CPU/RAM/Disk) cost in Sweden?

As I was saying, it's a religious question. In the result we'll get the winner of this round and the loosers will hope for the next round. I myself is an nVidia guy but I can admit that FX series has some issues. 6x00 is much more competitive. And I just hope the next thing will be better. If not, well I could be converted to ATI's camp but ATI needs to beat nVidia several rounds. Even in this forum you can find many times that "FPS is not all what you want from a game".
