I actually don't know the total price, I only know the price I pay for it a month over the next 36 months statesubsidized, and the pricedifference is slim to nil accutally. With the only difference being the video card and DDR2:s (and the MHz) the difference isn't even $2 a month (roughly 20 versus 22)! Without the subsidization that would probably about $8, you do the math. I'm surprised it isn't more expensive though, this might be some kind of deal that Dell is offering my employer for changing it's offer. Dunno. (we we're offered the i9200 before)

$792? Damn, that's cheap. You Swedes must pay some hefty taxes to support those subsidies.

If not, well I could be converted to ATI's camp but ATI needs to beat nVidia several rounds. Even in this forum you can find many times that "FPS is not all what you want from a game".
I know, so watch @ the Bandwidth...

Trust me, we do Though not all people get that large a subsidie, it depends on what your income tax is, mine is 30% upto $25000 and 50% on everything on top of that, and the 50% is what counts which means that my statesubsidie will be 50%, and then my company pays half of the rest (they figure we learn more about computers by having new ones at home, meaning they will have to spend less on their ITservice-department) = I pay 25% of list price. Don't expect the i9300 to cost 792*4 across the pond though, we have pretty high sales tax and it comes with 36 months at home service, plus complete theft and damage coverage + a hefty bunch of programmes like office 2003 pro and so on. Some unnecessary perheperials too like a 256 MB keyring memory, and a not so unnecessary 200GB external harddrive and a wireless router.

The Sonoma platform (new version of Centrino, 533 bus, ddr2, pci-e) is coming out in mid January, so this is most likely just a replacement for the 9200.

OK, let's assume you're right. The Dell marketroids went insane and decided to replace a model that they just introduced two months ago. If the 9300 isn't the XPS replacement, what would your ideal XPS Gen 2 look like? A 20lb monster with a liquid-cooled P4 and a pair of RAID0 SATAs?

I'd still prefer the 9300. At least until the dual-core chips are in production.

If you compare the best nVidia (for desktop) with the best ATI (also ), you'll see, ATI > nVidia.

Scroll a bit down and watch the bandwidth

GeForce 6800 Ultra 6,4 Pixel Fillrate (GP/sec) | 35,20 Bandwidth (GB/sec)
Radeon X800 XT PE 8,3 Pixel Fillrate (GP/sec) | 35,80 Bandwidth (GB/sec)

ATI > nVidia, forget it, i love ATI, not nVidia :P

Oh, b4 i forget, if you play with nVidia games with activated FSAA 6x / AF 16x, you lose a lot of FPS and with the ATI? no problem :P

and here

http://www.zdnet.de/enterprise/clien...28205-3,00.htm

scroll down 4 benchies

The X850 XT PE ~ 6800 GT SLI!!! (u know, 2 cards )

i just want u 2 believe, that ATI > nVidia. I hope now you're a believer :P

By the way, if you watch at the benchmarks X800 mobility vs GeForce 6800 Go

watch this -> http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2268&p=12

So, now hf :P
*Sigh* Damn, you missed what I said. Look: I have a $300 GeForce 6800 non-ultra. Ever heard of the X800 Phantom Edition? None of those high-end cards are close to available.

It's nice that you cited THEORETICAL bandwidth, but I've seen plenty of examples in the real world that show theoretical is not an accurate representation of actual performance, and it seems like you should already know that if you discuss it all the time.

Check out the article at anandtech on the Leadtech GeForce 6800 (it's coupled with a 6800 ultra review) and you'll see that the 6800 non-ultra has the best value according to anandtech. I'm sure I can drag up plenty of benchmarks that show NVidia coming out on top. Wahoo.

ATI and Nvidia both suck, I like the integrated intel 3d solutions, best performance imo.

ATi and Nvidia are both good now, in the past some of their offerings truly did suck while others were a no brainer. For example, Nvidia's Riva TNT was an awesome card while ATi was fooling around with rage3d chips. Then the ATi 8500 series cards came out and offered great visuals and speed. Now both the x800 series and 6800 series are good. The best one is which ever one is cheapest at the time and plays the games you like the best.

Are you kidding? Can you give some support for this theory? Integrated video belongs to value segment, not performance.

Wait and see, we can all speculate and it is interesting that the 9200 has only been out for a couple of months. Look at it as 'shortening product life cycles'. In a few years you'll buy a laptop and before you get it home the new chipset will be released and it will be obsolete. I'm STILL waiting for my 9200 to come and it's been on order for 1.5 weeks!I'm suspicious of that form,

It's definitely not a replacement for the XPS. Why? Because it comes in the same box the 9200 does!

I have used the Inspiron XPS Gen 2

Hi all,

i work at Dell and today i actually used an Inspiron XPS Gen 2. It was a 2.13Gig Pentium M (Dothan) with 1024Mb DDR2 (533Mhz) RAM. It has a cool aluminium style top with the XPS logo light-up in blue from behind. It is basicly the same chassis as the I9300 with the XPS-style cover. It has two small speakers at each side of the front and there is also a small blue light behind each of these - very good looking.

It is powered by a PCI-E Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra Go, this has yet to be announced by Nvidia - it's not the normal 'standard' Geforce 6800 Go. It has all 16 pipelines enabled and 256Mb of VRAM.

Sorry, i didn't have time to benchmark. Hope this helps!

OK, the big question, when can we order one. Thanks for the info, I hope it’s true.

Inspiron XPS Gen 2

I was told it should be out in about a months time, it's true, don't worry. For obvious reasons i can't say any more! :-)
so when can we get a 16 pipe gpu for the current xps and 9100s?

Yikes. 16 pipes and GDDR3. That's gotta run fast and hot. FWIW, when I unmasked all 16 pipes on my 6800 GTO, I got a 3dmark03 of about 11000.

Mother of NOTEBOOKS!!!! I want to believe you so...so...much. I hope you aren't messing with my mind. That's pretty sweet, but I'm still not sure if I want a 17-in screen. Will Dell make a notebook with a 15.4in screen and the Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra Go, or is that exclusive for the XPS Gen 2?
