Don't use NBF for the discussion of vigilantism.
rando191, you may want to contact some of the parties involved in this thread at pcper. best of luck to you. you'll need it.
well i just signed up to say that what worries me is that this piece of poo has started paying ppl back on pcper, but is this because he is getting the $$ from new scams elsewhere?

as for vigilanteism - its a good job he doesn't live in Saudi - you know what they do to thieves!!

we're not talking about isolated instances here, we are talking deliberate ongoing fraud over many many months at a number of forums. And these are only the ID's and forums we know about so far.

maybe if the authorities in his area didn't keep saying there's nothing they can do , then ppl wouldn't get so frustrated.

good job he doesn't live in the UK. Like nassaumike said......

Lexxter check your pm on pcper.com for his info.

Hey good luck to you in getting either your money or laptop back. I know if it were me in your shoes id be hurting. As for all the posters talking about showing up at doorsteps and baseball bats get a grip. You attempt that anywhere under any circumstance and you are just begging for serious trouble. Its not worth it for any amount of money much less 2000 dollars to either land yourself wrapped up in anything from assult to manslauter charges, or worse yet dead. Things can get heated any anything is possible. Believe me when i say that no jury or prosecutor will feel sorry for you because you feel you were scammed online. The overriding circumstance would be you taking the law into your own hands and that will not sit well with anyone set to prosecute.

Your best bet is to file a civil case against the individual. You do so by being the bigger person and calmy informing the defandant of your intentions and being the consummate professional. Any threats will come back to bite you so be carefull and good luck.

I would never adovicate harming that scamming fool but I have to think that if he thought someone he scammed would come to pay a visit, he might think twice before he pulls this crap...I really think he feels he can easily get away with this type of action and thats just wrong. I can only speak for myself but I would be paying him a visit and I do not care where he lives and I would worry about what might happen after but if I did find the scum, I would drag him to the police, file a complaint and stay until he was charged...the way I see it, better than doing nothing at all and his type makes it hard for the honest people to buy and sell on these sites as we all now wonder if any sale is a scam waiting to happen unless, of course, the parties know one another but it just seems like a damn shame to let him get away with this kind of thing
post #149 of 438
Suing him doesn't let him get away with anything. Showing up on his doorstep with a baseball bat is both lazy and stupid. If you do you get what you deserved. Winning a court case is long but, believe me, extremely satisfying. He'll pay more than he owes since there's interest + whatever it cost you. If he can't pay then you know that he'll be hounded by repo men until he does pay...

and that's just a civil suit. If you manage to get him charged then he can do time as some poster previously mentioned accomplishing against a scammer after long work by many victims. If you link up with the ones from PCper then maybe you can share the costs of an investigation and whatever else you might need to pay for.

Wow...I've been reading the pcper thread!

Do the world a favor and don't settle for just having your money back. The way I understand it he's dug himself so deep a hole that he needs to scam people out of money to refund other people he scammed out of money:

http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.p...&postcount=460

They also seem to know about your predicament there. I think your money was used to pay off previous victims.

I just posted this in PCper...

Quote:
Yeah, someone on notebook forums was scammed out of 2000+US$...or out of a laptop anyway. I suspect "Jeremy" sold the laptop and used the money to pay you off.

Hey Jokerr, have you built a file on him? I'm considering putting a file together. I'm not directly involved but I do have a law degree and have the time to work on it right now (I'm teaching English in Taiwan at the moment, travelling one last time before the career kicks in.) Here's what I'd like you and other victims to do.

Use microsoft Outlook to download any emails received from "Jeremy" and aliases as well as your responses and put them in an individual file. Then you can email them to me. I'll read the files and flag important mails for court purposes. Once we've an important enough file we can file with the Attorney General (something worth their while, I don't think just filing FBI complaints is enough to get anything done) By the way, if you HAVE been scammed BUT have been compensated please don't neglect to send in your information about what happened.

Btw, the way I flag emails is I read them and build a file in Notepad:

10/11/2004 - received laptop, money on its way
11/11/2004 - lost a leg, sorry, money on its way

etc...nothing special, just a reference document. I've done this in the past and works great. If you want to do this before sending in your emails then great. I'm just sick of hearing people whine and not doing anything about it; or stopping once they've got a refund after months of crap. I'll start the file. I'm leaving in April but hopefully by then we can get this filed.

Btw, any other info you've put together would be useful. You should also send in stuff like UPS tracking numbers, paypal transcripts confirming your payment, etc. I've noted what was said in the thread but it isn't that much. Phone numbers that are probably out of service, Deborah Ann Oliver, Jeremy Oliver, Jeff something (if you can give me the last name that'd be cool, if not I'll have to find it , I wasn't taking notes when I read it..) father "Neil" in hospital in VA...

Only thing I won't do is spend any money on this, I'm hoping the victims can pool together. If you could get a credit report on Jeremy and/or Jeff through Equifax or something similar that'd be cool. It'll show any past claims on him (in court) and his credit rating(obviously.. )You should also know that I can't file the claim myself since I wasn't involved. I can organize it and give it back to you, ready to print *gasp* and file (hopefully). At least I can try, with all these aliases it seems like it can be quite a headache to get it all straight

PM me for my email...btw, I'm on notebook forums as well. Actually I check that board more often, I just came here 'cause of this...
Btw, while I was posting "Jeremy Oliver" or whatever posted this:

Yeah I know, we're PMing each other, he sent me his contact information as well as a list of people he owes money to.
I do hope Rando lets you help him or at least, let you point him in the right direction. I agree about a ball bat and Jeremy's head...This guy really needs to be stopped and if a judgement aginst him is the best way then I hope you guys are successful.

And I would hope you would make that information available to all the neccessary people

I am in no way questioning what you are doing. I just hope you don't get sucked into his "I am going to pay everybody back" routine.

This guy is a pathological liar. He is just buying time.
I told him criminal charges are inevitable at this stage. His giving back everyone their dues ASAP will only factor in his favor when comes plea bargain or sentencing time. He said rando wanted money, not the laptop and he's trying to work that way. I told him to not bother and just send the laptop back but I think he was offline at that point so I don't know if he got the PM yet. Rando can call him or mail him...

Btw, I don't know what you expect but I don't think a 10+ year sentence is appropriate. Maybe it's 'cause I'm canadian but I think I'd be happy with probation (condition being to stay away from net trading) and community service to make him think about what he did...if he turns himself in and allows me to help him do so. If not we'll see what happens but really, I don't see what an insane sentence is going to do for anyone.

Good advice. I hope he heeds it, but I somehow suspect he won't.

With respect to a sentence. I have never mentioned 10 years. I think you have me mixed up with someone else. I just hope everybody gets there money back.

To tell the truth, I couldn't really care what happens to the guy. He is a low life pathological liar.
I know you didn't mention it. But someone posted earlier about putting a scammer in jail for over 10 years. Can't remember the poster's name, around page 5 I think. I just don't want anyone to expect this. I don't and I think it'd be wrong to even try to push for this...

Someone should let rando191 know he is active over at pcper right know

Maybe you can ask for your money?

Thread Starter
Sorry I was unable to post for quite some time... been very busy getting legal advice and the like regarding this poor transaction.

Anyways, I received an interesting email from Jeremy.

Jeremy is currently closing a deal on a notebook sale. I am to receive the money from that sale by this Friday and the rest of the money by Feb 1st. Fact or fiction Jeremy knows I am not playing games here. I have laid down the law and I have already enlisted federal and criminal aid that will be ready when I am. I had a rough start getting everything compiled but I understand the logistics here and what I am entitled to. I believe Jeremy also understands the seriousness of his actions and will now come clean. I have put all legal entaglements to a halt through friday. Jeremy knows if I do not receive the money, or a VALID tracking number then I will persue my legal actions.

I am in no way satisfied with Jeremy until I receive the proof. As it stands, I have to put whatever faith i have left in Jeremy towards his final promise. Jeremy and I both know that this will be his LAST fake promise. Break this, and I wash my hands of the deal and allow the law to take action.

I also would like to note that if he does pull through, I will offer him thanks for bringing this deal to a close. Jeremy knows that he has wronged many people and wants to come clean with everyone. I really wish he would post here and try and settle things with the rest of you.

Again, thanks to everyone who has been supportive on the boards. It is incredible how this community comes together to help those in need. You guys rock!
