The could look similar because the base unit could be made by the same company. Also someone earlier said that Dell and Sager got the base unit from the same people. Have a look at this:http://powernotebooks.com/articles/Name_Brand.php3
It doesn't supprise me that Sager, Voodoo, AlienWare, Hypersonic and Falcon use the same supplier - Clevo, who are the best or top 1 or 2 ODM company. Nor does it supprise me that DELL, HP and Compaq use the same ODM. I don't like any of them - especially DELL. We have loads of them come in to work. I was reading their advertising bumpf and noticed that DELL machines come with a certain printer that costs £40, hardly works and replacement ink costs £40 a time. Since a certain company had them on offer we have had a steady stream of these in.
I hate companies like DELL who sell use non-standard components to trick their customers. Rip their customers off. They do have very cheap machines. Like a P4 that has a massive cut of the FSB, half the L2, etc.
I am not saying Sager are a good company. I have seen a couple of things that I don't over like. One being that all their pentium machines have higher spec than AMD ones. They only have one AMD machine! But this is no different to most other companies. I have doubts about the quality of the paint work. I have heard that it comes off or dulls. But I can't be sure. I have an IBM with no paint on it. It is solid minging alu. What I do know is that I will never get a DELL, and will be more likely to get a Sager, or most from Clevo. I may also get an HP. They are one of few companies that have good support for Linux and will even ship it preinstalled.
I don't aggree with all the anti-dell stuff, but I have enough experience not to want to use them. I also have profit munching uncareing companies - MS, DELL and Intel. Yes MS, just charge life saving charities 100s for an opsys. Use Linux and you get it for free with a heap of programs all out the box. All that we needed was in the 5.5GB distro (in loads of languages).
And about outsourced support. I partially agree. I find foreign support very hard to deal with. If I was Indian I would also hate foreign (ie US) support. The fact that companies care so little about their customers and so much on profit it is disgusting. Indians aren't any less knowledgeable or whatever than Americans. There should be indian call centres - for *indians*; US ones for americans. Or choice - shouldn't Indians in the UK be allowed to speak to tech support in india. It is not Indians I am against. It is the lack of choice!
Now I can hardly see this screen so i'll be off and I expect you have all heard enough.
Take care all
