designing...meaning you want someone to write up a page for you?

hosting...meaning you want your own domain?

I was thinking that maybe a program or some other source that I could design my own web page to display some pictures of some costume jewelry that my wife makes. She wants to show them to some of her freinds.

There are ways of doing it for free. You can go to any free web hosting provider, subscribe and use their online web page builders to make a web page.
Some of these free providers are:
Geocities
Tripod
Angelfire
That should get you started.
Now if you are looking for something more professional, there is software you can buy such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe GoLive (which cost an eye and a leg) and you can buy a domain name and a hosting package (not so expensive these days).

If you're looking to sell stuff, it's reccomended you buy a domain name. Simple page builders like Frontpage, as Vortex said, will easily get you started. PCTorque is made in frontpage, but you may need help from someone who actually knows the stuff. If you need any help, I can help out (free) but not too much.

Thanks.......

Thanks very much for the reply! Now that I have a headstart I can at least look into it. I'm going to research it some more and give those web sites a try and I have a problem I will be sure to ask!! LOL....I'm not that proud! I really appreciate it. I will let you know if I get it up and running....thanks again!!!!

By the way, frontpage won't actually give you a domain name, if that was unclear. Be sure to register a domain name at some places, different places offer different prices with different options. Most offer CGI enabled, which is something you'll need if you're going to open an online store. I'd be happy to look around for you if you'd like.

hey! oh yea, not that im saying you should do this, but there are ways to kill those freakin ads on like geocities and stuff, if u search on google you probably could find some... i hate them with a passion, and i'd almost do anything to kill those popups...not that i do that tho..

and! for somethin cheap, you could make your own apache server on your computer or whatever and just get a domain name thingy...i tried doing that..but im too dumb to figure it out

LostMortal, I agree, and like on my site, i killed off geocities ads. There are multiple ways to do it but the way i do it is probably least efficient, as i have to upload all my files agagin every month or so to kill them off.

For geocities, the easiest way is to just type <iframe width="0" height="0"> after </html>

Anyway, Eagle1, no problemo and just come back if you need help.

Well, if you're looking for a cheap web-host.... my friends and band-mates do a web hosting business...

$5 a month for a bunch o stuff... (hundred megs, 2 gig traffic, cgi, etc...) it's Unix based, and the support is great, not to mention setting up a site is SUPER easy.

...and I forgot to mention a free domain name upon signing up? yes!

Try www.bluerax.com

They have nice Sun Cobalt servers and a cheap starter plan. Great service too.
