Opinion - keep 9200 or return it and get the 9300? - Page 2

Jeez, you still have that thing? You only have 21 days to return it, you know.

What you're not realizing is that Alex is one of us who got in on the many-stacked-coupon deal from last month, many of us got $3300-$3500 laptop for about $1900 after rebate

just got off phone with dell....my i9200 is going back....i want that i9300 or maybe even i6000!

plus, i had one of those terrible WUXGA screens!

What's the 9300?
for the price difference between 9200 and 0300, id say get 9200 and spend that extra on a powerhouse desktop. Then u got mobility and Power, right?

Basically, it's the 9200 enhanced with Intel's new mobile chipset. So it'll have 533MHz FSB (vs 400), pci-e, faster memory support and a few other goodies. I thought I'd read the chipset would include SATA support, but the initial report is that the 9300 will not have this.

where did you guys hear about this? I haven't seen any posts here about it.

It was here, but now it's gone. You can thank Dell for that.

The original data sheets had some discrepancies, so we may not know exactly what it will have.

You are exactly right there! I'm afraid of losing out on that deal. The biggest reason I want to upgrade is because of the graphics card performance. The 9200 replaced my desktop as my gaming machine - an Athlon 1600+ and a Geforce3 doesn't cut it anymore I'm looking to get something that'll really last awhile and let me run games WELL at the 1900x1200 resolution - something the MR9700 struggles to do right now!

I canceled my order for the i9200 this morning after reading about the i9300 on these forums. I figure it's a lot better to wait for a next generation laptop with a much better video card even if I have to pay a few hundred extra for it. Anyone have an estimate on when we might see the i9300?
Why would they release a similar, but yet better laptop than the 9200? It seems like the 9300 will eat into the 9200 and kill the product line. Its like how 9100 killed XPS.

And i can see that 9300 will be sky rocketing expensive, after seeing how an decent/ordinary 9200 cost around 3000 bucks.
I wonder if the I6000 is going to have the option to upgrade the GPU.
Who's to say that the i9300 won't have the same coupon stacking? Also- Intel is shipping it's 915PM pentium M + pci-express chipset in 10 days.
I really doubt the i9300 will cost much more than the current i9200 since Dell has to meet a product line pricing. Its not like they're going to up the bar on the xps to $3500+ and the i9300 to $3000 it would kill their sales. Not to mention competing vendors like Sager are already offering the same hardware solution for around $2500 which is a good price. I figure with Dells financial power + rebates this new i9300 will be within the same ballpark as current loaded i9200s. Either way I refuse to spend money on a soon to be discontinued product with an outdated videocard/chipset. I just hope Dell speeds up the release of the i9300, the 6800 go has me drooling.

I agree with holding off for Somona. I was also on the verge of ordering an I9200 because it sounds like a great machine (except of course the graphics card could have been better). With Intel’s release of Somona only days away it just does not make sense to me to jump into a purchase right now – soon we will have a faster bus, built-in surround sound, better Centrino wireless, and the clincher of course is support for the next generation of graphics cards. I currently own a I8600 with Radeon 9600 so I can wait a little longer. . .

C'mon, guys. You can buy an XPS today with dual-channel DDR, 800MHz FSB, and an ATI MR9800 if that's what you really want. The 9200 is fine for 99.9% of my needs, and I can't see paying a premium for more speed than I need.

And as far as thinking the 9300 will be cheap, we already know Dell overcharges for things like RAM, disk, and video card upgrades. What makes you think they'll give you a deal on DDR2, the 6800go, and Intel's latest processors? It has never happened before and it never will.

Ok just because the i9200 suites your needs doesn't mean it does everyone elses. If I know a laptop with an updated next generation chipset/gpu/cpu is around the corner and will be replacing a soon-to-be defunct product line, it would be ludicrous to go out and purchase the i9200. All the doomsayers thinking it will cost way more ($400-500+) will likely be proven wrong when the i9300 launches.

Dellbert exactly. Maybe at base rpice it'll be the same but i bet dell charges at least 500 bucks for 6800go and 500 bucks for 1 gig of DDRII. COmon, we all know dell dont we?

Save the bucks and invest that in a REAL 6800 and a nice LCD.

I already have a watercooled 4.0 Ghz P4 + X800 XT PE so I don't need to worry about my desktop. I want a fast notebook that I can take with me when I'm not home that has capable gaming performance, battery life, looks and quality - all of which IMO dell laptops deliver. As for assuming the 6800 go or the ram will cost oodles of money, go look at competing vendor prices and you should have an idea of what Dell may charge. They're not going to shoot themselves in the foot by overcharging for the same product offered elsewhere at a fraction of the price. Guess the difference is you guys are more cynical about Dell than I am.
