CD burner doesn't burn right.

So I was having trouble playing DVDs a little while back so I messed with the firmware/drivers for it. Later, I realized it was the video card drivers causing the problem, but that's besides the point. So DVD's play fine now, but when I burn CDs, the buffer keeps running out. This equates to the CD skipping lots if it's an audio cd, or certain files not working if it's a data cd. Windows told me I have a Samsung drive (which is what I used to get the firmware/drivers), but Sager's site says I have a Toshiba drive. Anyone know for sure what kind of drive I have? I got the laptop back in April of this year.

If you do have the firmware and stuff, would you mind e-mailing it to sixtimesseven(at)gmail.com

'Preshiate it.

Would really really help if we know what the actual drive designator was when you purchased your machine. The what firmware as used to flash the drive (if any). If you used a 3rd party firmware to update the drive you may have to live with it as sometimes the flash burners are sensitive as to what they are upgrading.

By the way, there were several different DVD burner configurations offered and/or shipped by Sager. Is your machine a Sager or was it purchased elsewhere. Especially important if you purchased outside of the USA.

Forgot (can't edit my original post), what software are you using for the burn activity?

Well, I got the firmware from the samsung site. I don't have the laptop handy so I can't tell you too much about it. I used Nero for burning before and after. And I got my laptop in the US. Just went to the Sager site, ordered it, and got it with a week.

Toshiba and Samsung are the same company now a days. When you get the designation of the unit, please let us know.

In Nero's (Audio1 - Nero Burning ROM --> File --> Preferences --> Ultra Buffer) Check to see what your settings are. I have mine set at Manual COnfiguration and 80MB for the Data Size Buffer.

-OR-

In Nero's (Audio1 - Nero Burning ROM --> Recorder --> Copy Disc --> Burn --> [To the right of the Number of Copies Box] --> Insure that "Buffer Underrun Protection" is checked/enabled.

The drive you have has underrun protection; however, if the Nero setting is disabled; I'n not sure if it will be used. The problem that you describe would occur.

Available firmware updates can be found here: http://www.cdfreaks.com/drive/476
