Just would like to know if anyone had noticed this on the 7700 it was a problem on some 9860 models but not all. Just thought I would ask to see if anyone had notice this

I have a fan on my 7700 that sounds like it already has a bad bearing. Another fan cycles between full power and low power every second. Tech support was going to have me pull the key board off, but my kids were trying to kill each other so I decided to do the fan work later.

sounds like the same problems with the 9860 are happening with the 7700, I hope I will have good luck when I finally get mine sometime this year LOL

I have the "chirping" problem on my 7700. It is intermittent and can occur on either of the CPU fans. When you look underneath at the fan making the noise it is quivering like it is trying to start but doesn't have enough power. I have found a quick blow with a can of air gets the fan going. There is no pattern to the behavior at all - it can hapen at any time and on either of the CPU fans. I read elsewhere that AW and Clevo are working on a solution and just hope it comes soon.

I have this problem as well. Thanks for the tip on the air.

I have the same problem, it is the exact same problem as the 9860. Justin from the message boards says it is a bios problem not sending enough RPM to the fan to get it either started or keep it high enough at a higher RPM. I also confirmed this myself with technical support just the other day. Until Alienware updates its bios like Sager did then there is nothing you can do, just hope it doesn't burn up... LOL

Well I am not telling anyone to do this because it will void your warranty but I got tired of the fan chirp and flashed the bios with the one Sager had for there fix on the 9860 and problem solved fans run all the time but no more chirping and they are not loud at all to me . I would rather a cooler pc. CPU temp at idle is 37C hdd#1 44c hdd#2 45c

It would be nice if Alienware would offer the bios fix for the fans

yes, sadly less than 2 minutes after receiving my brand new Alienware Area-51m 7700 and powering it up for the very first time it started chirping loudly and wouldn't stop... it sounded like a wounded little bird was caught inside running my system.

I hate to say it but as much as I was really excited about getting my first Alienware system... I packed everything up and returned it back to Alienware for a refund. I didn't bother trying to troubleshoot it because I was already too disgusted and disappointed.

It seems buying a new notebook without chirping fans or dead pixels really depends on how lucky you are. I guess my luck ran out because I had both.

You may have jumped the gun a little..my fan "chirp" stopped after a couple of days but that is not to say yours would have but you had a month to send it back..I may be wrong here but that Sager bios update turns your fans on at their max speed all the time...someone posted that here a few weeks back I believe so that might not be the answer your looking for either...

as a point, 5 weeks after recieving my 7700 the fan chirp is totally gone, for whatever reason..breakin maybe..I do use a cooling pad at home with it but not at work

i'm still getting that fan chirp...although i swear that it's happening less now that i've turned the lcd time display off... however, when it happens, it's really really loud. i called alienware about it when it first happend (day 2 or 3 of owning it) and they didn't have a clue. they said to blow air into it, but that didn't help. it only seems to happen when the fans are at a certain speed. at full speed they're fine, and at low speed they're fine...there seems to almost be an inbetween speed that is causing this...

Mine goes away when I close the lid and open it again. Otherwise i just use air and it stops. Mine more so twitches and chirps. But Doesnt affect Half life 2.
