I'm i mistaken or is the Z70R the long awaited asus m6n series style asus notebook with 128mb video ram? Here's the link, let me know what you think; http://event.asus.com.tw/whiteboxwor...r/overview.htm .

"ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ 9700 IGP, max. shared system memory 128MB VRAM"

The video ram is shared.

Not Quite, I think it is a misprint on the video card. If you go to specification, it is not the ATI 9700. Also the word "Shared Memory" caught my attention

But it does look very very sleek!

This one is more closer to the M6BNe series...

That's interesting, I wonder how it performs.

But don't the specs say it's "ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ 9700 IGP, max. shared system memory 128MB VRAM" , i thought all of the mobile ATI video cards were shared memory. Must be mistaken.

Smilepak, don't all the mobile ati radeon deals have vram, not ram. As in your posted link. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

RAM, VRAM...pretty much the same. V signfy video ram....

However the differences is dedicated vs shared.

Dedicated is for example, you have 512MB System RAM (aka: DDR) and 64MB VRAM. That full 64MB is for video...

Where as shared when it said 512MB System RAM (aka: DDR) and up to 128 shared VRAM, meaning it will utilize part of your system RAM being the additional video ram.

System RAM is lower than true video ram.

also another thing to look at is, the ATI M11 is aka ATI 9700 Mobile. However in the system you post, i believe it is an error on the main page because in the spefication page, it said it is a ATI RS300MB embedded.

This is due to the main chipset on the motherboard used in this laptop is the ATI RS300MB + IXP150 and not the "Intel Odem (855PM) & ICH4-M" used by other...

ATI have recently enter the motherboard chipset area along with nVidia and SIS

But all in all, I think it is the international version of our M6N series in Silver color. The one you post is not available in US, while the cousin Z70NE is the M6NE of our. Just that the "Z" is the non-US whitebox name of it I guess. And it is Silver and not Black.

i think that vram means virtual ram, not video ram. virtual ram meaning you need to have as much ram installed as possible because some of it will be dedicated to video operation. not to knock what you're speaking of. But why would the Z70R be marketed as the new video enhanced version if it wasn't better than previous models.

Call me a tad vacant, but isn't that just a silver M6? I couldn't see any area where it is different from the US spec M6.

Assuming that is the case, I can't see the point except for those who like silver. One of the nice things about the M6 is the all black surrounds, which subjectively improve black levels.

Above laptop:
ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ 9700 IGP, max. shared system memory 128MB VRAM

Is the US M6/m6bne not 64 mb Radeon 9700 integrated?

Yup the M6 is an 64MB Radeon 9700 integrated. I believe that Z70NE is more of the M6 similarity

vram is video ram not virtual ram.

that's just a white M6 (which, IMO, is not as slick as the old black ones)

Black M6Rs (IGP variant) have been available since october (that I know of)
