if we can is there any difference????

Sorry, but the answer is no. They have to be ported over to Mac OS and most aren't.

1 out of 10 games (or less) are mac-ported (even fewer are linux-ported) so you can't play. there are a few reasons to this, but the most obvious one is windows files binaries are EXE, while mac uses APP, 2 different formats, gotta be changed.I know there is more to it than that...just had to say something techiie-ish not to sound dumb

No. And usually it takes a year or two, if ever, for a game to get ported to Mac. So while you're just opening your World of Warcraft box, the guy with the PC down the street is probably opening up the expansion set already.

Executables are the same across any computer system, the difference is not their extension, exe or app, but how they're compiled.

Windows executables are compiled to take advantage of the Windows OS and it's various APIs and DLLs, as well as the unique architecture of the x86 type processing chip.

Mac executables are compiled to take advantage of OS X and PowerPC processors.

Just to let you know, you still sounded dumb.

Anyway, to the original poster...while you cannot use a windows version of game on Mac, it's pretty much guaranteed that the best selling Windows games will be ported over to Mac. Mac gaming is quite possible, though you have to wait a couple months for the newest games to come out. And while you don't get the huge selection of available games, you do, generally, get the cream of the crop.

If you're satisfied with waiting until May or so for Doom 3, then there's no reason you can't get a Mac and game.

Not true. Blizzard is one of the few companies that release their games for both Mac and PC at the same time...on the same disk believe it or not.

Point taken. World or Warcraft was just an example. Most major studios have the resources to put out Mac games allong with PC titles if they so wish to. Smaller companies do not, or takes them longer to release.

I never knew Macs were so easy to upgrade!

Buy a cheap desktop PC with a decent video card to play games, and a Mac if you want to do photoshopping, video/audio editing, or ....photoshop.

and yeah, the Mac Gamer video is great. Don't ever recommend a Mac to a gamer, it's just mean.

The good games come out for Mac. Mac users rarely buy a game only to go home and install it and find out it sucks because all that was done by the windows users first.

Actually the problem is that most games are written for direct x. The ones that are ported are opengl - the compiling isn't a problem usually, so long as they don't use M$ proprietary technology.. i.e. direct x.

So maybe you should get YOUR info straight before you start name calling there chief.

Games for Direct X can be ported to OGL. After all, wasn't Halo a Direct X game? That works just fine on OS X.
