microsoft antispyware beta

Thread Starter
anyone else run this yet? seems pretty decent, finds spyware, explains what it is and what it does, recommends if it should be removed.

for instance, found bearshare, edonkey, aornum, and iwon. explained each one, recommend removal/quarantine, then does what you choose. Also has a threat level.

not a bad piece of free software. requires you have a legal copy of windows 2000 or above.

Scans fast, the descriptions for each item are a nice feature. Tends to forget some advanced settings, though.

IF its not better than adaware then I dont touch it.
I uninstalled it myself, will try it some more as its development furthers along.

I like webroot myself, it has found some bugs that others have missed.I''m a little wary of anything MS puts out as a beta. I'm not anti-MS, I just dont trust beta copies.

Supposedly it's just as good as Ad Aware or Spybot...it's just buggy because of beta obviously

Since it was MS, I was going to pass over it completely. But then the few positive remarks in this thread made me think, Ah what the heck- I'll try it out. I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot (checked both for updates before running) at the same time. Ad-Aware and Spybot both found 5 tracking cookies whereas MS failed to find any bad cookies. However, MS found a F@#%in' keylogger on my computer. Recently my eBay acct had been hacked and I couldn't figure out for the LIFE of me how it'd been done. Now I've got a reasonable lead on how they got as far as they did.

Keylogger was Admon or something like that. Got it from Photovista 3.0.

Impressive first showing for MS, though. Showed that Ad-Aware and Spybot aren't exactly at the top of their games. For now, I'm going to stick with the 3-tier system instead of the 2. Major failure on Ad-Aware and Spybot's parts. Surprising, really.

Good find. MS's antispyware and antivirus software are actually the result of a couple acquisitions over the last year or so. MS bought Giant Software (I believe) for their antispyware software which (I've been told) is very reputable and thorough.

So don't have the wrong first impression of these products because you think it's from MS. They were actually developed elsewhere.

I downloaded it, it's actually pretty decent. It found some more stuff than Ad-Aware found

Anyone figured out if this detects Alexia (or whatever it's called, the one that comes in windows)?
I don't like that it determines VNC as spyware. This is highly annoying, but understandable.

Installed it. Ran it. Keepin' it! Didn't find anything, and some of the advanced options are redundant characteristics of the explorer options, but it's always nice to have a second spyware remover present.

Uggliest Icon I have Ever seen! but its beta....
i'll stick to Ad-Aware for now. Anyone have a guess if this will be built into Longhorn?
i use giant antispyware before ms bought then and I like it alot. Now that its in beta I think that it run faster then it did before. and its free for right now. I hope it stays free.

I say it should stay free!

That's extreme, but I love it, so I'll give you another:
When you have a monopoly and you run the world, you have to generate conflict so you can sell more crap!

What ARE you currently playing?
