Sony VAIO type F!!!! WOW!!!

Son'ys New VAIO type F

Gotta be the best looking laptop I've seen by far! and the specs are very decent.

I would take this in an instant if it was sold in Australia but as it stands I'm stuck with my laptop purchase. Any additions to my current thoughts?

Dell i9200 - screen problems (even WXGA+), ? over battery life, probably
bigger than I would like
HP DV1000 - integrated video (even though I'm unlikely to be playing games -
but would be nice).
Asus W1Nb - Heat issues, 2hr battery life.
Asus W3N - Not released yet, but leaning towards it if battery life is good.

I am willing to take a bigger laptop if the price is good and the screen is fab, but unfortunately the dell screen sounds a bit iffy. I was set on the HP1000 after seeing it in a store, but hear complaints about the narrow vertical viewing angle. And the integrated graphics is restritive. Otherwise really nice. Though I get the impression HP aren't the most reliable of manufacturers?

Asus notebooks I've never had any contact with. So a bit wary about quality. even though I hear they are a quality product?? The W1Nb sounds really good with the digital tv tuner, but heat issues and battery life?

Anyway this Sony type F seems to be the perfect answer, but it probably wont' be released elsewhere for another 6 months . Though I'm going to Japan in Feb, I'm hesitant to buy one there because of the warranty situation.

Uhm, Sony just announced the FS series at CES, which is supposed to come out at the end of Jan - see the other thread for links/info.

Asus make great notebooks. So good that they build Sony notebooks for them.

However, I'd buy the one you want when you go to Japan. Sure you may not get a warranty here, but you'll save a couple of thousand.

I paid $1800 AUD for my A190. If it was available in Australia it would be around $5K, so I'm willing to take a $3200 punt on warranty issues.

Is the DVD burner internal or external on the F series?

The DVD burner is internal on the F series!

sfdoddsy: Wow! that's an incredible price for the spec you have! I'd be very happy with that. Can you recommend some places to get good laptop bargains?! I'd definitely take the punt with those savings too!! I was thinking about having to pay close to RRP for the F-series which would be 3k+ for the spec I want. If it's under 2k, I'd snap it up in an instant! Even your A190!

Thanks in advance.
