5690 wireless problem

the hobgoblin returns, perhaps. I did a quick search, and didn't see anyone with my problem, but if I missed something, please accept my appologies.

My 5690 is having trouble with the wireless networking, but I don't think it's hardware related. I was having a great time with wireless yesterday (using a D-Link DI-624 router) and decided to enable WEP this morning. I do so, and my computer still says it connects, but I can't load up any web pages.

I bought the Sager last year (June) and since it is at least saying it connects, I doubt it's the laptop, but maybe something in the software settings of either the router, or my drivers, but I obviously don't know. on a (perhaps) related note, I also noticed that when I was connected (both now and when it worked properly) XP Pro never said on the taskbar that I was connected (still had the wireless icon with the X through it) I believe I have the latest updates (I updated last week, or at least that's what MS told me I did)

Any help out there?

well, after a firmware update (the unit must have been sitting in a warehouse for a while) I have some connectivity, but it's still acting strangely:

After booting up Firefox, I test out CNN's page. it loads.

"Awesome!" says I, "now let's make sure I have a constant connection. Download something large!"

attempt to go to Download . com. Computer says "page cannot be found."

"Bull," I hit return to try again. it loads up!

In order to elminiate the possibility of a virus, I go to update AVG before running a scan. new update to be found, so I attempt to download. "Connection lost" says the program. THEN it starts downloading (without me trying again) the update.

Strange, if you ask me. any ideas?
